oil pan?
hello, was just wondering what oil pans people have been using in there swaps
what was the donor, and what year does it fit into, and how does it fit? I'm planning a 6.0 into a 77 swb 2wd and am starting to collect parts and tons of info thanks, This site ROCKS!!!!!! |

If you do not plan on going real low, the stock truck pan will work fine. Depending on the mounts you use, it will hang anywhere from about an inch to 2" below the cross member.
GM make a swap kit that is about an inch shorter than the truck pan. It seems the ideal pan is a F-body pan. When swapping to anything other than what is on the engine already, you will also need the windage tray and dip stick and tube at a minimum. FWIW, I am running a stock 5.3 truck pan that was on the engine. The front is lowered about 2" and I haven't had any clearance issues. The biggest thing you need to figure out is how low you plan on dropping the front end, if any.

i think it also depends on what mounts you are using. I made my own and they seem to hang teh motor real low which was my plan. I swapped to a camaro pan and it fit great. You will need the inner trays like mentioned.

+2 for the F-body pan, especially if you are lowered. They can be hard to find at times and people think they are gold $$$, but it will be direct fit and you won't ever have to have that thought in the back of your head.

ya I'm dropped with spindles, springs, and 26 tall tires, so defiantly gonna have to run with a trans-maro-bird pan and tray. My cousin works at GM so is gonna get me a price on one

also, you can get a brand new "swap pan kit" from GM for ~$150 so don't pay that much for an F-body pan.
