Re: Show us your crayon marks

Interesting thread here...These are mine. The yellow "Crayon" ones are on my hood (along with a similar marking that indicated the truck got new tires in 1979 - Dealership maybe? ) The other marking is similar to 70shortfleet's, same spot...didn't know it was there until I saw this thread and went and looked. My truck was made in Fremont, November '71. The "329" marking is interesting as it's the same number as 72kay20's...

Re: Show us your crayon marks

I HAD this one under my hood. The hood has gone to live with another member.

This one is on the firewall behind the passenger inner fender.

It is continued below the heater.

This one is behind the distributor on the firewall. I kind of rubbed some of it off (OOOPS) trying to make it legible for the picture.

This one is on the front of the cowl, dead center. I didn't even know it was there until I was sitting in the engine compartment trying to clean the one behind the distributor.

Re: Show us your crayon marks

I saved mine and after new paint I was able to go right back over the faint original grease pencil under the paint. It was a loaded 66 283 powerglide with factory air ps and pb and tinted glass.

That is correct; there is no correlation between plants relative to VINs or daily build sequence numbers.

These Fremont trucks are crackin' me up! Apparently the guys in the paint shop were pretty creative...

I am not sure how to tell which plant my truck was assembled?
The engine was from Flint. How can I tell?

the assembly plant is within the VIN. Search for a "VIN decoder" for your generation of truck (60-66?) here on this site.

Re: Show us your crayon marks

. . . .

Here are a couple on my 70's firewall.

The "B" in the upper right of the first picture is for the Baltimore plant.

The "635" in the lower left corner of the first picture is the job number.

The "AIR" on the inside of the right fender was to let the assembly line works know that this truck would have air conditioning installed in it.

. . . .

Re: Show us your crayon marks

Great thread Oe...

I just brought home a '66 4K series GMC with a pile of options....from air brakes to suspension to HD wiring harness....
I am having probs with pic's right now, but I'll post up a few when I get over my problems....
This thing has more ' Factory Graphiti ' than any I've seen so far..ie: "HDWH" ( maybe "Heavy Duty Wiring Harness"...?....duh I guess) on the underside of the hood....a bunch more on the firewall.
Pretty cool.
I really like the paint shop's ID work.

Painters are like Bass Players.
Plenty of self esteem....Maybe even a pain in the a$$.....but ya sure gotta have 'em.
Notice the mid to late eighties painters didn't sign their work....?

Huhh.

I sure do wonder how they new that $hit was gonna fall off so quick.

Re: Show us your crayon marks

This is on the front of the bed header panel on my '66. It was built in Atlanta and delivered to Clayton Chevrolet in Seneca SC on 12-16-65. It isn't the paint code; Saddle Poly/White was 544.

. . . .

It's the job or sequence number as it went down the assembly line.

It was put on the front of the header panel so it would never be seen . . . until YOU took the bed off !!! LOL

Re: Show us your crayon marks

Picked the two below off other posts on this site. So far, not a whole lot of consistency on the various markings that have been posted in this thread, excepting the Fremont painter's initials.
