New to me 82

Made the deal yesterday.
Always wanted one of these.
Was going swap a 4x4
But this maybe easier

No drive train yet
Planning on a 350-350 combo
And plant it, how far can you go down out back
til the diff hits the floor?

Congrats! I have no idea how low before contact, maybe Keith or someone else will chime in. Slammed is the plan?

Re: New to me 82

Yeah pretty low. I'm told a standard notch will get it there in the rear.
My 16 year old is wanting to become a fabricator.
So we've talked about pancaking to crossmember or a aftermarket deal.
Have to make room for it at home yet

Re: New to me 82

More random questions.
Finally looked at the title.
Its a gmc jimmy wondering how many 82 2wd Jimmies where built.
Also...
Would an 82 have the 1" or 1.25" rotor?
10 or 12 bolt rear-end
Its sitting 4 hours away.
And im shopping

Re: New to me 82

Not sure on production numbers.

I think in 82 the rotors could still be either. I'm texting a forum friend and he said either is possible, the heavy duty was still an option. The rear should be 10-bolt.

Re: New to me 82

Good bad and ugly.

This is going to be a bit more of a project than we thought.

Appears to have taken a hit in the door/B pillar area and some poor repairs made.
The passenger seat frame is busted completely in half
The floor brace is wrinkled up.

But no rust in the floors.

Re: New to me 82

Still looks like a cool project that will clean up well.

On that light blue, patina'd 67-72 (maybe it's a 70?) sitting in the driveway. What wheels are on that? I like that pattern.

Re: New to me 82

And has the 1.25 wide rotors.
And surprise surprise the smashed B pillar problem is almost minor in comparison.
The right rail is twisted and kinked.
Major bummer

Find out Monday if we can source another frame.
I think its fixable but another frame maybe a less painful experience

Re: New to me 82

Well now we'll see if the 4x4 frame is really the same.
Let the fun begin.

And got the kid a tig machine to weld it all together

Re: New to me 82

Well we have a frame, albeit a 4x4 frame.
Time to cut rivets a lot of rivets.

Yeah for sure I'm this deep into it no reason not too.
And anything but black.
Spent the weekend sectioning the crossmember for more low low.
My boy is getting proficient with his tig welder

Re: New to me 82

The 4wd frame swap and the sectioned crossmember are trying our patience.

Good times with J though

Unbolted everything and it relaxed enough to go together again
