Re: Rear 67 stepside fenders????

You wont find them for 67. You have to get the 68's and fix the sidemarker light hole.

I don't think the '67s are repo and they probably never will, just get a '68 and up and weld the the hole up or just get a good rust free original one, they pop evreynow and then in the parts board.

Re: Rear 67 stepside fenders????

They should repro these(like front fenders).I think it`s b/s to have to pay what the 68-72s cost then go through all that it takes to "mend" a new fender(or pay). It`s not as simple as on fenders and fleetsides since the area is bossed out at the back of the opening.

You can get fiberglass ones from US BODY, they don't have the hole knocked
out on them so they would be easier to modify, but they are really expensive.

Re: Rear 67 stepside fenders????

It's a simple supply/demand issue.

If they did make 67 fenders, the price would be considerably higher due to the
fact that the cost to make dies, etc would be spread across a smaller amount
of fenders that are manufactured.

I would guess that the cost for the 67 fenders would be more than double
the cost of the later model fenders.

Re: Rear 67 stepside fenders????

Well it really doesen't matter to me why they don't make them, it just sucks that they don't! See mine are shot so if i'm gonna buy new ones it would be nice to not have to pay more to remove the side lights. Cuz I don't do body work so every penny counts....But thanks for the info

Not necessarly, I used to work for subcontractor that made a lot of products for several automanufacturers such as GM, Ford, Subaru, Nissan and lastly Honda, I used to run a 100 ton press and that sucker would move, and we would use the same dies again and again, there'd be parts that would requiere several holes in predetemined places while others (same basic design in the overall shape and form on the part itself) would not require the holes or whatnot, we would just pull the dies and have the machin shop take some of the inner parts of the die and swap them for the inner parts that that we need them without ever needing to have 2 or more dies to make more than 2 different parts.

It seems the people that designed/made the dies for the rear stepside fenders cut a corner or two (ie: save money) when making the dies and having them made to only manufacture a single part instead of making a die with some interchangeable parts to maybe be able to make another part such as the '67 step fender.

Re: Rear 67 stepside fenders????

Yeah,a smart die-maker could have made them adaptable.I don`t think GM made a seperate die for, say,a Camaro vs a Z28 with the cutout in`80.
