Yesterday we got the engine set down on the chassis and it sure looks nice. Got the radiator core support sand blasted.

Re: 1968 Gmc ground up restoration

Well i started messing with the box today removed both wheel wells gonna replace them. When i was removing some of the old bolts i noticed that the back support had some welds driver side welds were cracked and missing the bolts to hold on the quarter panel nice. Question i have is are the welds from the factory or someone added them.

The welds are factory, all the fleet beds have them, usually you grind that off and unbolt a side to remove.

Re: 1968 Gmc ground up restoration

Today we started messing around with the drivers door and looks like I will be replacing the whole bottom of the door, of course it didn't look that bad when i bought the truck so I thought. gutted the door out and man the screws were rusty but didn't break a single screw. the track material broke into many pieces trying to remove it.

Re: 1968 Gmc ground up restoration

did some more sand blasting last week we have started moving on to working the sheet metal pieces. will be replacing the back end of the fender due to some one hammering in the rusty area and then filling with looked like a couple pounds of bondo.

Re: 1968 Gmc ground up restoration

Scored the drivers inner wheel well for $20 at the swap meet last saturday. Today I got a fender, wheel covers for the box, a nice front wall for the box and a good fender which just needs a new front nose.

Looks like a cab i seen in Olympia! I really think you should concider removing the outer rockers if you have not already, its amazing how much rust can be hidden on these trucks..

Wow, I'm so impressed with all the work and progress made. Would you please do my truck next? If you want to share, what do you expect this restoration to cost? It's also nice that you have your own shop .

Re: 1968 Gmc ground up restoration

After putting the cab on the cart we started taking everything out from under the dash which included two white lights that were hooked up to the door buttons. I personally have not seen this before. We also took out the a/c unit that was installed in place of the glove box.
