Newbie from Texas... 1972 Cheyenne Super Stepside

Hello All, I am relatively new here, mostly reading watching lately. I recently bought a 1972 Cheyenne Super Stepside 350, A/C, PS, PB, fully loaded real/deal original truck. Long story on the purchase and satisfaction/disappointment etc... I am the 3rd owner of this truck. It is in original condition and someday we will fully restore it. I have owned a few 1970-1972 Chevy trucks but have recently come back to classic trucks. Nice site/forum I learn more everyday from everyone here. I am in San Antonio Texas, any truck shows this summer? Thanks.

awwsome, this is only the 3rd or 4th one I've seen. You have any pics of the option sheet? I have yet to been able to get a step side spid label with cheyenne or super for proof.... many say it doesn't exist.

Nice looking truck, I really like the oranges, yellows and of course pink colors on these trucks. I am wondering about the cop spotlight on the truck, do you know why its there ?

Re: Newbie from Texas... 1972 Cheyenne Super Stepside

Thanks all for the Welcome! Longhorn Man a few months ago you answered a question I had on this truck. You did indicate it was somewhat rare. Thanks again for your response. Here is the story on this original 1972 Cheyenne Super Stepside. I bought it sight unseen (only pics) from Ebay. As some of you may remember it was on EBay and it was talked about. I had been looking for a 1971 or 1972 original stepside A/C truck for awhile. I found this one on Ebay and it was original with little rust as seller indicated. I was concerned a bit about the rust and the originality until I saw the SPID. This had been a California truck all its life and I am in fact the 3rd owner. I received the 2nd owners title dated 1979 and upon checking the truck I was disappointed at some of the other rust issues. Basically the dealer/broker lied about the amount of rust it had, it has some on the bottom corner of each door. A little bit on the rockers. I was upset, disappointed, bummed etc... and began to make his life miserable. I specifically asked him if it had any other rust other than what was indicated on his pics/desc and he said no. He said he would take it back if I shipped it back top him, RIGHT, now I am out $1,500 for shipping cost. Well to make a long story a little bit shorter, I filed a claim on paypal for my deposit and I got it back. PAYPAL actually found in my favor! I sent them emails, pics, description etc... and they sided with me! WOW! Now back to the truck, as far as I can tell it is an original Cheyenne Super Stepside, original A/C, pb, ps, trim SPID, etc... truck. I do know the interior has been replaced to black color and I added 15x8 rallys and mirrors. It does have a California sticker regarding the engine dated 1974. As far as I can tell the original engine was replaced in 1974 with a dealer installed code 350 engine CKD, auto trans, ce (Ca Emission). It seems it has been rebuilt once as it does run strong. This is a good driver truck everything works and someday we'll retore it to perfection, until then we will enjoy it! Here is a pic of the SPID I do not have the build sheet. Thanks all, esp. Longhorn Man.

yep... model number ending on 04, a true stepside, and the cheyenne option there too. Sweet.

That spot light may well have been installed at the dealership when it was new, that was a dealer installed option, and also avalible through the aftermarket.

Thanks again everyone and thank you Longhorn Man for the additional info, the light does look original. Someday we will perfectly restore her to original show condition. Today, my 2 young sons love riding in it and my wife is getting into classic trucks.

Ditto . I really like red heads . The only other 72 Cheyenne stepside i saw had the side trim , it was up in Canada at a car show . Owner said it was all original . Never did see the glove box sheet .

Acording to the GM papers, the side trim was no avalible on a step side, but I've seen a few pictures with owners claiming it to be original, so there's no tellin.

Howdy from another Texan in your neighborhood! I too have been reading and watching and learning a great deal off of this board. The information on here is a gold mine and the folks are great!

Fredericksburg has an annual car show and swap meet sometime in July I think, and they usually have several vendors selling 67-72 parts, as well as individuals selling all kinds of good stuff.

Beautiful truck, and best of luck with her!
