Question C-30 brakes

I want to know if any body has ever ordered the emergency brake cables for a C-30 truck? If so where did you order from.

I need everything from the rear drum brake cables back to the handle inside the cab. I have nothing at all on the old ramp truck and would like to get the e brake system working again. I have the brake handle in the cab is all.

After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.

Obviously that's going to need some way to extend things.

Re: C-30 brakes

I use Inline Tube for that stuff. You may be able to get the main cable special made to your length if you knew how much over it needs to be. They are very exacting at Inline Tube and if you don't have exact numbers they won't be interested. I had them make me longer rear cables for a lifted truck many years ago. It seemed like I was the first one to make such a request. They guy said they only do factory spec. It took some persuading, like saying "Just make them factory spec plus 2 inches" and "I accept that if this doesn't work I bought them anyway". Of course, you could always get standard length, cut, and clamp an extension in, which is how it was done originally on that frame stretch.

Tim,
In-line tube is the main one I contacted. I hope to hear back from them so I can find out what they need. Hope I can get something done.

Re: C-30 brakes

Are you dead set on cable operated E-brake?, Might go through all that trouble with extra long lines and have poor results. I would use a hand operated trans brake or a line lock.

I never thought about that, Hmm that maybe a way to go with a line lock.

Do you have any good info on a system. All the ones I see say not for E brake use.

I am subbed for this one.
You could possibly use the lever
to operate the line lock or Trans brake??

Question Re: C-30 brakes

Nothing is coming up that states use for E brake. I wonder how the wheel cylinders would hold up if I used the line lock for extended times.

Question Re: C-30 brakes

Found this one but I would have to run the brake lines into the cab so it works.

Re: C-30 brakes

I have an '85 C30 that has a hydraulic parking brake in the cab. It was a pipeline welders truck and it may have been required.

Would be cool for loading/unloading the ramp truck, but IMO, it's no replacement for the all mechanical parking brake. I don't think long term use of the hydraulics under pressure is a good idea.

While we are talking about brakes on this I have another brake question.

I bought a whole front end out of a 86 3500 HD a while back with disc brakes. Can I just swap the ball joints and spindles out of the ramp truck to the 86 ones? Any thoughts and links threads on this subject?

So all I need to do is break the 86 a part and swap the ball joints and spindles & rotors over to the ramp and hook up the new lines.

Did your C-30 come with a drum brake style parking brake on the back of the transmission?

That is anybody's guess. If it did it's long gone now.

I have nothing under this truck as far as e brake stuff. Nothing at all.
Heck I don't even know if the rear drums will have the E brake bar inside of them.
