Re: The "Frankenstine" build;

Glad you decided to use a hood and fenders. The cab is to large to pull off the hoodless look. Admire your determination to over come obstacles both physical, and economical. Good luck to you!

Re: The "Frankenstine" build;

Hello:

AD;
Do not think I would ever get the fenders to line up with the wheels.
I have stock wheels on with a 8.34" from fender(std down) to the wheel hub on both sides.
Had to take the cab mounts loose n inlarge the ps mount hole.
Moved cab over to ds almost 1 full inch.
How the inter-fenders are close to right.
(ck out last pic or the fenders n the frame)
Called it a day after doing all that math n labor.
Still working on the radiator mounting on the frame.

Re: The "Frankenstine" build;

Hello Again;

Got back on the project again;

Got the brace on the ps fender installed.
Added the new lower rear fender exten to both sides. (pic)
Worked on the ft fender( body work) (pic)
Looking at the ft grill assy n thinking about how to brace the inter fender to the frame.
Then try to set up some way to make a NEW grill to fit. (pic)

Will have to do some sanding the body filling n more sanding to make the fender exten look right plus ft fender needs body filler also.

Ft fender clearness-will cut on the line above the slash marks.

Re: The "Frankenstine" build;

Hello;

Well I found out that I'm no body man.
I mixed up some mud this morning to do body filler with.
I put it on the hood,both ft fenders n the ds rear fender about 9am, waited till like 3pm n it was still not set up.
Come to find out I didn't use enough hardner in the mud.
So cut n scrapped off all the mud n made a New batch.
Got it on the places as before, will see if set up by morning.

Try to figure out a NEW type hood latch, thinking about useing a NEW style latch(75-80 chevy pu)

Since the grill will be hand made to fit the front opening anyway.

Still have a problem with the ps hood hinge not working right,don't think I have the hood to cab mount set down right.

Still have to cut some of the ft fender (rear part) off to get ground clearness.Move the bottom of the fender up 2".

The clearness will be;
9" ft of ft fender
8" rear of ft fender
9" ft of rear fender

Have not though about the rear of the rear fender yet.

NO (pic) today, will try to get some tomorrow if body filler works out.

Re: The "Frankenstine" build;

Hello:

Well got the old filler off n redone the body filler.
I must have put enough hardner in this time.
Got the filler on yesterday evening,set over nite n worked it this
morning.(pic)
Got to fill in the wedge cut tomorrow on the ds panel.
Then get the filler on the ps extension.
I also painted the inside of the cab. (pic)
Will have to wet send the cab paint n do another painting.
Have to remove the hood again to get the ps hood hinge to set down flush with the cab.
Try a spot on the hood to see if I could work filler on a small area for dents.(pic)

Hope that some of these pic will help others doing a project of this type.

Re: The "Frankenstine" build;

Looks like the modification to the fender is going to work Tim. Have you tackled the radiator mounting yet? Good deal on the heater, for me a warm shop in the winter is a happy shop.....really dislike working in the cold.

Re: The "Frankenstine" build;

Hello;

I have NOT worked on the radiator mount yet.
I will have to wait till I can order the radiator.
Will be working on getting the shop cleaned out n rearanged for the heater.
I think I will try to get the front of the body mounted to the frame.
With all this together ,then I will know just what size radiator will fit.
I'm going to get a wiper motor(chevy blazer rear windowmotor) this week n try to get it installed under the dash.
Working on redoing the hood latch assy also.
Will have to order the hood bolts n both the glove box n glove box door from LMC.
I seen a pic of a 50 chevy with the clock mounted between the gauge.
I think I will try to make that mounting to install a Tack in that location.

I hope with the heater in the shop I can work on the project all winter and get some of the small time repairs worked out.

I hope that by spring time I can have it on the road to drive next year.

Re: The "Frankenstine" build;

Hello ;

Well didn't get much done on the project.
Spend the day cleaning out the shop n getting the NEW stove set in place.
How I just have to cut out for the exhaust stack on the heater.
Going to go out thur the wall then run the stack up outside of the building.
Moved the tool box n other items around in the shop.
Pulled 2 of the 350v8 out n put in the other shop for how.
Have pic of;
1 dirty shop
2 clean shop
3 project out side
4 ds out side
5 ps outside.

You can see the different in the ft fender clearness between the two sides.
I'm glad I didn't go with the 2" drop spindles.
I like the stance with the 14" wheel much better then the stance with the 15" wheels.

Re: The "Frankenstine" build;

Good set up on the heater Tim. I had one like that in one of my shops years ago...it didn't have a blower so I hung a fan above it to circulate the heat.

Re: The "Frankenstine" build;

Hello again;

Have not been working on the project;
Had to stop n help my sister get a water leak repaired.
It was on a trailer house.
Spend the last few days doing that.
Plus it has gotten cold here the past few days also.
So hope that I can get back on the truck this week.
Al so see if the stove that I put in the shop will take the chill off.

Thanks All;

Re: The "Frankenstine" build;

Hello All;

I have been looking at the rear fenders on the truck.
They just don't look right now that I have reworked the front of the rear fenders.
I have a pic of a rear fender,
the pic of the rear fender on the truck,
you can see the different.
I'm going to try n redo the rear fenders to look more like the fenders should.
It is going to be a lot of thinking n work to try to get it close to right.
See pic for differents.
Al so looking to try n make the clock holder for the dash,
except it will be to hold the RPM tack
see pics;
It looks like I have a lot of thinking n metal work to do over the next few weeks.
Plus still have to get the radiator in mounts installed.
I have also read that the bars from the fenders to the cab are very important for the fit of the hood to fenders.

Re: The "Frankenstine" build;

Are you going to add back the back bottom pieces that were trimmed off?? Looks like good progress, tedious but forward momentum.

Re: The "Frankenstine" build;

Hello everyone:

I have not had time to do much on the project.

In my early post I showed a pic of the chevy pu that I had put a motorin.
The motor was a GM crate.
It had an oil leak.
What I found was that the crat motor has two oil filler tube hole.
one on the right side at the head area
another on the pass side down on the block.
So I had to ck out the oil leak,it took me a couple of days to find the reson for the leak.
Also had to clean n rebuild the carb on the project.
Plus it has gotten colder here in the morning so only work in the after noon.
Did get the heater working.

Re: The "Frankenstine" build;

Orrie;

Yes;
I'm going to add the back side of the rear fenders.
Just need to make a pattern to go by.
It just does not look right, now that I have the front side of the fender redone.
