5.3 swap check engine light on

This morning I started my 72 that I recently installed a 5.3. The truck only has the cab installed on chassis. The motor has been running great. This morning it did not want to run so I added some gas. Now the check engine light is on it seems to be running fine. So I plugged my scanner in which I have never done to this truck. The scanner will not come on. The plug on the truck the pink wire is hot. I have disconnected my battery the light is still on. Does anyone have any ideas what to check to make my scanner work. I know the scanner works I checked it on another vehicle.

there should be 4 wires that are needed on the back of the obd2 port....2 should be black, and they go to ground, then there should be a purple wire, that is your serial data (communicates with your scanner), then the other should be orange, or pink, that wire is + 12volts, when the key is on (somtimes its always +12v tho)

Trace the green wire back to the computer connector and verify its in the slot for serial data. Do you have connector pin outs for your harness?

Re: 5.3 swap check engine light on

if your scanner isnt coming on, then there is a problem with either the power or grounds, either the OBD2 port, or the scanner itself....how you check the serial data wire is doing a continuity test on it....

Thank you 68 short step I have power to the Obd plug and I checked the grounds so I was wondering if the new plug was bad. Where do you buy the new obd2 plugs.

I always just go to any U-pull-it yard with a pair of wire cutters.

I think I found my problem my hot wire (pink) is in the #15 plug not the #16. How do I remove the pin without damage.
