Re: 1959 short Fleetside Apache AKA "Henry"

Finally got around to painting my tailgate today. Should be able to bolt it on tomorrow. Pretty happy that the paint is done now.

Beautiful. Did you slot the bottom of one side at the pivot point like a late model gate to make it easily removable or is it stock? If stock, what's your procedure for installing it? I may be missing something but it seems really cumbersome and setup to scratch something. dug

I bolted it on just like the factory did. I just taped the edges and had my son give me a hand so I could get the bolts started. One bolt I could get from the top and one bolt I had to lay underneath to get it. A bit of a pain but I don't ever plan on taking it off again.

Re: 1959 short Fleetside Apache AKA "Henry"

I managed to get to a couple of shows on the weekend. Shows really are not my thing but the one was an amazing car collection out in Rocky Mountain House. This guy has a complete restoration facility and staff hired to complete cars for his own collection. Great way to spend fathers day with one of my sons.

Re: 1959 short Fleetside Apache AKA "Henry"

Thanks Guys! I have been driving it as much as possible these days. It sure draws a crowd when I go somewhere with it. I'm going to change the wheels on it I think. I need a wheel that has a lot more rubber because I find these pretty rough. I would like to get that front end up about another inch. I was thinking about running a 235 60 15 ( 26" total height) on the front and a 255 60 15 ( 27" total height ) on the back with old school torque thrusts.

Hey Ratpin, I found mine on ebay and the guy happened to be in Calgary AB so I went to his house and picked them up. Man I hunted for that trim for a while before I finally found some. On a side note I seen a 59 at the Portland swap meet that had that trim on it but could not find the owner of the truck... Turned out it was a truck that you owned but was not for sale because it was for your dad. How is that truck coming along?? Bill's truck shop out of Ontario Canada sells repop side trim if you are looking for a set. When I wanted some they were back ordered and not sure when they could get me a set.

Super nice truck! You did an excellent job on it, I'm hoping to see it at a show sometime since we are local to each other!

I also hunted for the elusive stainless trim and was fortunate enough to find an excellent short fleetside box and trim for a steal of a deal, found it in Bowden, AB of all places.

Again, great job on the truck, it looks great!

Re: 1959 short Fleetside Apache AKA "Henry"

Thanks Hooligan! Good find on the short fleet box. I personally really like the fleets on these trucks. Yeah It would be great to run into each other at show. I will be following along on your build. Cheers

Re: 1959 short Fleetside Apache AKA "Henry"

A few photos from when I had the truck appraised for insurance a couple of weeks ago. I have been able to clock 4000 miles on the old truck this summer without any problems. Love driving the old truck and just thought I would share a few pictures.
