'71 spindles on a '67 C10

Guys, I bought a set of '71 spindles and rotors and looking to put tem on my '67 front end. Doing a little research looks like I will need to swap ball joints on my truck. Just looking for any advice to see if that's all I will need or what else I will need to make my conversion go smooth.

Thanks

Always replace the three rubber hoses for safety. You may have a different size brake line fitting on the left side for the disc brake hose.

Yeah, definitely going to do that. I was really just talking about mechanically to make sure fit and operability was good. Looking for any other hardware replacements that I would need to change or if just the ball joints would be ok? Or if I needed to even change out the ball joints? Will the tie rods from the '67 be ok with the '71 spindles?

I’m doing the exact same swap with my 1969 gmc. And I am using 72 spindles and a 72 rear end. You will need new inner and outer tie rods and upper and lower ball joints and adjusting sleeves as well. I think you also need a 71/72 steering shaft that the inner tie rod attaches to. I’ll get back to you on that when I check Tomrrow. Also get new inner and outer bearings and seals for 71/72. The brake hoses can get confusing. The 71/72 brakes lines are 3/16 on one side and 1/4 on the other and our trucks are 3/16 on both sides so you can either get two brake hoses for the 3/16 side or get an adapter for the 1/4 to 3/16 side. Are you swapping to 5 lug on the back as well? Only places like classic parts lmc brother etc will carry 6 lug rotors. Parts store only have 5 or 8 lug. You might as well get new calipers from auto zone if yours haven’t been restored. They are $22 with the core.

The set I'm buying already has the 6 lug rotors so I'm gonna keep the 6 lugs. He also had caliper so I'm just going to rebuild them. Thanks for the help. Still sounds like I'll be cheaper doing all this instead of buying one of those conversion kits.

Re: '71 spindles on a '67 C10

If your steering center link is good use it over. You don't have to replace it with the 71/72 part. You can simply use a new 71/72 outer tie rod end with your 71/72 spindles, a new 63/70 outer tie rod end on the inner location and get a CPP tie rod adapter sleeve. The CPP part is heavier than the stock sleeve and adapts the larger 71/72 outer end to the smaller 63/70 outer end that's now on the inner location.

You have to use a 63/70 outer end on the inner location because not only are the disc brake tie rod ends threads larger in diameter but the thread direction is switched too.

This is your cheapest way out with the least parts swapping.
