68 Build Thread**Better Late Than Never**

SO I noticed today after doing a search, that I have never started a build thread for our truck.
So I will fill in the blanks from past to present...and start using this thread for all my updates.

Truck was bought December 2007.
She was an all numbers matching truck,
This is what she looked liked when we brought her home.

MOD#2 - New Steering Wheel

My Son and I where at the auto parts store and he noticed the steering wheels on the top shelf of an isle.
he asked if we could get one & I said, if we where to get one, which one would you get...
He picked a simple cheap grant wheel.
SO we bought it and the adapter kit to install it.

THE NEXT DAY....

OOPS! A tad bit crooked

we have a million pictures of this engine being taken apart,
but because I'm trying to "catch" up with the thread,
I will only post a few pictures.
Besides it will be completely rebuilt so what it looks like before isn't to relevant

Looks great so far! Glad you are getting around to posting this up! I really like the black and orange with a little pop of chrome paint scheme on the engine! Looks like factory with an upgrade

FireWall Paint

Well before we put the engine back into the truck, my son asked if we can "wash" the inside of the truck.
So we power washed the inside of the engine compartment & then we somehow just started to clean and paint the firewall.
Truly I have no idea how it started but we went at it, with what we had.

Engine First Start

Today is the day! we hear her run for the first time after a LONG year of rebuilding the engine.

Here is the video............

She fired right up with no problems, other than large air pockets in the cooling system, it was a smooth first run

Re: 68 Build Thread**Better Late Than Never**

SO time has pasted, and we have been driving the truck on and off over the last few months.

We found a brand new set of hooker long tube headers on Craigslist a few moths back & we decided it was time to install them.
So we went to audio zone and bought some cheap $17.00 turbo mufflers & some straight sections of exhaust tube and went to town.

Only problem was that when we went to autozone, the only version of "cheap" turbo mufflers they had on hand where 2" in/out.
Our headers are 2-1/2", so we just bought some reducers to get by.

April-11th 2010
Header install..

THE NEXT DAY.....

WE made this video during the install.... it was fun...
But my wife knew I was going to have "to much" fun during this "test" drive, so she said no ride along for my son

APRIL-18th 2010
HOOD PAINT

Well My daughter wanted to get into the "truck building" action. So I told her she could repaint the hood.

SO during the process, I went into the house to get out of the heat and eat some lunch, I moved the hood into the garage out of the direct sun and my Daughter took it upon her self to shoot some "black" paint.

She did great, but I was like What the #$% are you doing.... then I stood back and said. damn not bad!!!

We did some touch-ups and mounted the hood as is.

FIREWALL DELETE

SO after driving it around showing off the "new paint" I took notice of that damn firewall...

SO I tried to fab up my own delete pates...

After all that fun time I had making these plates.. the metal I used was to thin to weld.
So I just made another one that covered it all and screwed it in place for now.

I figured it was time to do something about it. So I made some drop blocks for the rear.
