Rebuilt my 383, pictures inside.

I just finished rebuilding my 383. It had been ten years since I built it, so it was time to freshen it up. While I had it apart I ported the heads, put Eagle SIR cap screw rods in it, had the block decked .015" and had the engine balanced. I reused the cam and pistons. The pistons still look new. It has 11.1 compression now and the flow numbers look good on the heads, so I hope it will pick up a few tenths at the track.

No, I just go by the tach, I checked it with a hand held GPS, 2900rpm=60mph, 3400rpm=70mph.

They are. My heads are Pontiac Motorsports 867 heads. They are SBC heads that were used in NASCAR several years ago. I think Brodix made them for GMPP.

What is the purpose of the tray in the lifter valley? Does it hold the lifters straight like for a roller cam or is it just some kind of oil shield? Cool Truck!!!

It's a oil baffle, it keeps the intake cooler by shielding it from hot oil.

looks good....what were the flow numbers of the 867's? Are you still running a soild flat tappet? How did the bearings and caps look? any signs of detonation?

I'm still running the Lunati hydraulic flat tappet cam (230/235 @.050 .496" lift. The main caps and bearings looked fine, just normal wear. The top rod bearings were in the copper. It still had good oil pressure. I didn't see any signs of detonation, the pistons and head gaskets looked almost new. Here are the flow numbers after I ported them. They were flowed at 28".

Intake / Exhaust

.200" 150 cfm .200" 151 cfm
.300" 203 cfm .300" 192 cfm
.400" 218 cfm .400" 207 cfm
.500" 252 cfm .500" 217 cfm
.550" 257 cfm .550" 218 cfm
.600" 257 cfm .600" 222 cfm

Great lookin truck! Screams talent.

Like to think of myself as well rounded mechanicly.. But I am very weak on performance stuff. A little education please?

Could someone highlight in the port pics what has changed to improve the flow?
Could someone explain what those #'s mean? I know cfm means cubic feet/minute.T he 28" means inches of water? And why only 6 sets of #'s? I was expecting 16.

The first numbers are valve lift, the next numbers are the cfm it flows at that lift. The 28" is inches of water, most heads are flowed at 28". All those numbers are from one intake port and one exhaust port.

Thanks. Sure do, but I don't put those video's on the Internet. That's my cousins Regal, He has a Shafiroff 540ci BBC with a 200hp shot of nitrous. He run's 6.0's @115mph in the 1/8 mile. Not to bad for a street car.
