Value of 72 K10 Cheyenne Super SWB

Ok I know the first thing everyone wants is pictures, but I don’t know how to post them, and it’s not my truck-yet🙂
I’m looking at a two owner, very nice REAL K10 SWB super. All original ,except engine(has a big block now)medium olive and white with nice options.
Has AC, four speed with tilt, cab clearance lights, tinted glass, etc. All options are on the spid and has documentation and protecto plate. Truck has some rust in cab supports but very solid other than that. Any ideas on value, he’s asking 26k and won’t budge on price
Thoughts?

Re: Value of 72 K10 Cheyenne Super SWB

If you like the color
And really want a Super SWB k10
Buy it

They rarely come available

I bought and sold this one in the 20k range
It was all original with target 350
But it came and went with original 350 that matched the protecto plate

Also, I know another member here recently bought an all original, less the correct radiator in ochre /white for 30 k

Re: Value of 72 K10 Cheyenne Super SWB

IMO the wrong engine hurts the value but...its still something
Very hard to find if in fact legit..the cab lights raise an eyebrow
as most were on 20/30 series trucks and are seldom seen
on a c/k 10. Only cab corners usually entails more once started
...would love to see the spid since 90% are built trucks.
Even still if its what you want he's probably not too far off
This is the 30k truck Eric mentioned. Original paint survivor with zero rust

Re: Value of 72 K10 Cheyenne Super SWB

Thanks for the thoughts. I do have pictures of the spid and it is a legit truck. I wish I knew how to attach them. The marker lights are listed as UC1.
Also I think I can get the original engine from the original owner, he still has it

One of my parts trucks was a 72 C10 with cab markers. They do exist.

Re: Value of 72 K10 Cheyenne Super SWB

Very nice! I wouldn't come off of 26k either... For awareness (and it truly doesn't matter), the paint code is for a conventional two tone (i.e. white top only) - the lower white was added with the new paint job. Some fairly uncommon (ok rare) options for a K10 Cheyenne Super swb from what I've seen, i.e. U01, the 4-speed, etc. I certainly agree with the above comments, if it's in your budget, I think it's worth it. It also does depend on whether or not having a big block 'bothers' you since Ks never came with big blocks from the factory. But if the engine swap was done with as much care as it appears the rest of the truck was - probably a fair asking price.

I wondered about that color scheme jocko, so it should just have a white roof and olive body then?

Re: Value of 72 K10 Cheyenne Super SWB

Yes, that paint code is for a Conventional Two Tone. Very common for folks to add the middle white to a 71-72 to make a Deluxe Two Tone (or the lower white to a 69-70 to make a Special Two Tone).

Interesting, I figured with a Super it would have the fancier combo.

Man that is a nice find for sure. A lot of great options for a short K. Too bad the original steering wheel is gone. Atleast being a tilt it would have had a black wheel, they aren’t that terribly hard to come by in decent shape compared to the colored wheels.

It comes with the original steering wheel. I have no idea why he put that ugly thing on there!

Re: Value of 72 K10 Cheyenne Super SWB

Are you going to pull the trigger ?
You might want to hurry up before I buy a plane ticket to Montana !
Just kidding
Does it come with the original engine too ?
If it does , and he has the protecto plate
The engine stamp on the front of the block just below the passenger head
Will match the one on the protecto plate
Then you will have a true, matching # truck

A couple other observations
Looks like the dash pad is black ?
Stock would be green
I suppose the headliner and door panels are green which is correct
As mentioned before steering wheel should be black
As well as tilt column being black too

Re: Value of 72 K10 Cheyenne Super SWB

Well I pulled the trigger on it and got it done. He has the original black steering wheel hanging on the wall in very good condition. He told me he didn’t like the green dash pad and painted it when he got it. At least the headliner and door panels are still green.
I’m pretty certain I can get the original engine from the original owner, it’s been on his garage floor for many years. I’ll probably roll with the big block as it only has about 3000 miles on it.

Re: Value of 72 K10 Cheyenne Super SWB

Congratulations
I would do the same thing
But if you can get the engine it would be great
I look at us as the caretakers of these trucks
That is a true gem, and should be kept together for the future
There are so few of them around
I think you did well on that purchase !!

Look and see if the tailgate handle is chrome

No known production numbers on Supers but...real ones are few and far between..in all my years of looking there have only been 15 ÷20 real ones with spids.

Re: Value of 72 K10 Cheyenne Super SWB

Very nice truck, I was rooting for you on it. Also the marker lights are a nice touch. My guess on the wheel, looks like a 78? wheel. Should be a little smaller diameter than a stock wheel. Easier to get in and out of the truck if he happened to be a bigger guy. I love it, great truck.

Ugly?!? You calling my Chevelle steering wheel ugly?

Just kidding.

That is what comes in just about every Monte and Chevelle I've dealt with.

Re: Value of 72 K10 Cheyenne Super SWB

Thanks for all the encouragement. Glad I was able to get the deal done. You can see the original steering wheel in the second picture hanging on the garage wall.
Also, I spoke with the original owner today and not only does he have the original engine sitting on a stand, but it is rebuilt and I will be getting it from him soon

That is the correct paint scheme for the truck. It matches the code on the Spid, the other guy told you wrong
