axles for my 70

I need 5 lug axles for my 70 1/2 ton rear end. It has 6 lug right now and I see dorman makes an axle (630-107) that is 1/16th longer. Looking by application its 87 to 88 blazer and burb and both my 70 and the 87 to 88 take the same axle bearing and it 5x5 lug pattern. Has anyone ever used this axle. I can get them for 90 each and would be a good buy if they fit?

Re: axles for my 70

I used 72 axles in mine, bought them off ebay for $40 I believe any from 71 - 87, 1/2 ton will work.

Re: axles for my 70

You need to measure your rear end to determine which axles you need. Measure backing plate to backing plate. The narrow rear end is 55 inches. If that is what you have, you will have to get conversion axles like Moser (I had to do this). If you have the wide rear end that measures 57.5 inches (I think) you can use the 5 lug axles off a 71 or 72 that you can pull from a junk yard or get off the parts board here.

From what I've read on here, the 70 models had a mix of wide and narrow rears. It is also possible that it has been changed/replaced over the years. Its best to measure first so you know what you are dealing with.
