I guess it's a one side entry rig as there don't appear to be a door on the driver side. Yeah, it's ugly alright.

Mostly just doesn't look all that practical for hunting.

I would maybe have expected a raised roof for sun/rain protection with open sides, assuming you're hunting someplace like Texas or Africa. Heck, the 4x4 tour places in the San Juan Mountains have a setup like that on the back of late model regular cab Silverados. I reckon they can switch the seats and roof to a new pickup every few years.

It's for pimpin' around the savanas sipping martinis.

But why go to all that trouble to custom build ugly when you could have one of these?

Re: Pic Thread: Cool Old Cars

Those Safari's are too cool for school. I knew of one. A 55 But the old guy I knew wouldn't cut it loose. He just let it sit in the yard. He told me "Talk to my kids when I'm dead". He was a cool guy. He liked to B.S. and tell really dirty jokes. I think he just liked looking at it. Because it hadn't moved in years. And it was straight as an arrow. Not a dent and no rust.

I don't know what happened to it because I moved away. I just hope that his kids realized what they had.

Re: Pic Thread: Cool Old Cars

I always had it bad for a '55 Nomad. Just too dang cool right there! Like a custom or concept car built in the factory to be sold to the public. But as my car knowledge expanded and I discovered Pontiac did their own version too... Well, that was just too cool all over again. Too bad Buick didn't do one. But they still had that Riviera factory custom/concept thing going on

I owned this '57 Chevy Nomad at one time. I can't remember what year this was taken but it had to be the Summer of '77 or before, because I was still living it town. I moved out to the country in December of '77.

Re: Pic Thread: Cool Old Cars

Seeing that 58 Chevy with a continental kit reminds me of when my brothers girlfriend had a 58 Impala. He found one. He bought it and was going to give it to her as a present. Somebody jumped our back wall and ripped it off. He wasn't happy.

Prototype Cadillac.

Cool Nomad. It has a late '60s-early '70s look to me. How long did you have it?

My thoughts were "disgustingly beautiful", and I mean it... both! As a kid I didn't like the Continental kits, fender skirts, or any of that other land yacht stuff. Although, I did get the vibe and it did find it's place in my heart. Kinda like the lowriders and full customs. Not my thing but truly cool. Now I want them all!!!

Thanks for sharing. I wanted a '71 to go with my '71 K/20, once it became a dedicated work truck. But I stumbled onto the '63 Riviera I bought, same class of car.

Mine was baby blue with blue interior. I've shown it here and elsewhere. Here are others cuz I really like!

Re: Pic Thread: Cool Old Cars

I'll take the gold one. But I want the cast aluminum bolt-on wheel covers (like the black one). That's what mine had. I have only seen one other baby blue '63 Riviera before. Plenty of the light metallic blue, but no baby blues. I found these pictures fairly recently

I've always wanted a 64 rivy never got a chance to buy one but never really actively looked either.

Same with this 55 . Have most of the chrome nos from when we cleaned out my uncle's studebaker parts . Seems Studebaker dealers kept everything .

Had the Nomad 2 or 3 years but I don't remember if I sold it or traded it for something else.

My '64 Rivera was the Light Metallic Blue, with a White interior.. I'll have to dig out the original picture and scan it a little bigger.

I remember my parents buying a 1953 Studebaker Starliner in probably 1955. It was the sportiest car we had when I was a kid. We only had it a couple years. Of course, I was way too young the drive it. The first family car I remember was a 1951 Olds Super 88.

Nice colors. White inside a Riviera interior is cool. Those were such great driving cars.

Studebaker made some sexy looking coupes. That two-tone treatment seems ahead of it's time
