Fleetside/Stepside crossbraces

Just about to mount my tray for the last time and noticed that the cross bars have holes on one side but not the other. Im guessing they are for the tray support mounts but what is the correct way to mount them...

Holes rearwards like the right bar
or
Holes forwards like the left bar.

Re: Fleetside/Stepside crossbraces

In New Zealand the bit behind the cab is called the tray.

Doesn't matter if its SWB/LWB fleetside/stepside its a tray ... the bit where you put your hay bails, spare parts, whatever.
