Aluminum grill

I just got an email ad from Classic Parts and apparently the 64-66 aluminum grill is now being reproduced. They are advertising it for 324.95. That's all the info I have.

Re: Aluminum grill

If the quality is decent, that's a good price.

Re: Aluminum grill

It'd be an opinion only. It is (was when i bought it) a counterpart product. Good quality. None of them are heavy duty aluminum.

Re: Aluminum grill

Why haven't I heard of the availability before now? I looked forever for a grill and bezels and ended up paying way too much for a defective NOS grill and found bezels good enough to restore. It would have been nice to have this info before now.

Do you happen to have the link to the Truck Shop? I can't find any other new aluminum grills for sale except for the new ones at Classic Parts.

Perusing their online catalog, I'm seeing chrome bezels which go with the universally available chrome plated steel grille, but nothing about aluminum. To this point, the only source I have found for aluminum bezels is beat to hell originals at swap meets and on the web. NOS seems virtually non existent. Did I miss something?

Re: Aluminum grill

I now think I see what you are asking about. All the grills re-popped are aluminum (save for a black steel unit I found) but say chrome. Your wanting non chrome aluminum right?

Re: Aluminum grill

i seen these aluminum grills 2 or 3 months ago when i happened to be looking around on bills truck shop up in canada.they have a bigger pic than classic parts does and shows it in better detail the grill and they also said in the caption that aluminum headlight bezels were on the way too.go to bills truck shop and click on new products in the 60-66 section and you can see them.

Re: Aluminum grill

I don't believe that all of the repop grills are chromed aluminum and I believe that the ones that are apparently showing up everywhere just recently are truly Anodized Aluminum with black letters.

I took calipers to an original factory aluminum grill and for the most part, the readings were ±.045". If someone has or gets a re-pop aluminum grill, post the thickness for comparison sake.

Re: Aluminum grill

Reviving an old thread...

So what's the general consensus on repop grilles, aluminum grille vs chrome? Aluminum not as bright and shiny, chrome risks rusting? Anything else? Is one a particuarily better fit than the other? Is mixing aluminum and chrome (when it comes to the headlight bezels) immediately noticable?

Re: Aluminum grill

They don't repo the aluminum bezels yet?

.
I think most have been real happy with the repo aluminum. I think it looks more authentic but I think the chrome stands out more. I don't know about rusting of the chrome repos.

Re: Aluminum grill

They've got aluminum headlight bezels. I see them on Brothers, and LMC.

I think I'm leaning aluminum for the grille. I don't want this rust bucket to look too flashy.

Re: Aluminum grill

I tried to get a powdercoater to coat mine in the same bright ceramic headers get, but he wouldnt do it. So i just have a silver color, which i wasnt happy with and he wouldnt work with me. Sorry i dont have a pic as the grill is stored. I was thinking about having the bumpers done in the same color, but decided against it as I found a good original Alum grill. MT65 your idea is a good one as original steel grills are cheap enough. Hopefully some can chime in on this. Some of the colors are close enough to the original alum finish.
