I loved those Dodge trucks when it seemed I was about the only one, including Dodge boys. Mostly went with Chevys and GMCs after that one because Mopar parts support, even at under ten tears old, sucked bigtime. I like that one. I love the go all the way approach to the build. Especially with leaving the weathered original body untouched. It sure is a lot of time and money put in considering what we are seeing in the video is probably as heavy of 4-wheelin' that truck will see. Hopefully I'm wrong.

No comparison but you have to consider this was farm built 40 years ago by a young carpenter.

yes sir,WOW,what a truck.i just sold a 59 Power Wagon cab and clip,13,000 mile fire truck.i thought about a truck project with putting it on a late model frame,too many projects waiting so i let it go,but probably shouldn't have.

Folks I used to work for had some of those old flat fender power wagons with the flat head six. There was one we dug out and got going, and built an all wood flat bed because it was just cab and chassis. They put some wider wheels and sand tires on it and it went amazingly well in the snow.

One "spring" when there was still several feet of snow on the ground, I used it to pull out some guys in a little jeep that had backed off the packed road to turn around and nearly rolled over backwards!

My Brother has grandpa's old 67 D-100 that is the same color as that one.
It still has the underpowered 225 slant 6 with 4 speed.

Those old Dodge pickups were hell for stout. Quite a while back our VFD had a ~1970 W300 (basically like the one in post #2 except the taller front and outside running boards). It had a utility bed with a slip-in water tank/pump.

We actually used it to bulldoze fallen logs out of the trail

It was the best thing for getting around off road or just driving down a county road, but the steering had gotten so back that it scared you to death on the highway. It also had the pump & hose reel on top of the tank (one unit) so that you had to prime it practically every time you started the pump.

It was a loaner from the state so finally they took it back and gave us a 2010 F-550 V-10 with a 500 gallon tank with the pump mounted on the back of the flatbed so it draws right off the bottom of the tank. Nice truck with AC and all but you sure don't go making your own road with it

They sure were. The body sure has a stout look, too. The tops look chopped some. I know you better watch your head hanging out the window with that curved door frame. I was on a mountain trail backing up to turn around when the truck bounced up on a big rock. My head knocked that door frame, bounced off that and smacked my nose across the window divider channel. I felt like a pinball . Man that hurt. About knocked me out. I had two red marks on my nose from the divider and I guess my nose wasn't looking too straight. Cuz soon as I walked in my girlfriend says to whoever she was talking to on the phone, "I gotta go. Tim broke his nose"

When I bought my 67 Impala, the guy had this huge white Shep. And that dog wanted to kill me. It was a great looking dog. But it scared the chit out of me. It was mean and it wanted to tear me a new one.

But a clean 67 Impala for 400 bucks. I took my chances. My ex wife drove that car for years. The old 327 ran like a swiss watch.

Dodge definitely had its own style back then. All the way to the wild west letters on the tailgate. My family had a utility trailer from that era which unfortunately signifies the demise of a pickup truck. I would drive that beast you had Tim. It sits just right, and those tires are excellent - designed with t-squares and triangles instead of computers, haha.

For a while my logging buddy had a Dodge 2wd 3/4 ton "sweptline" of that general vintage.

But it must have been a little older because even though it was a wide bed, the tailgate was narrow like a stepside and the rear corners of the bed came in towards the middle and there were big round tail lights. I suppose it was a lot stronger that way and the bed sides wouldn't bend out with a big load of firewood or rocks in the bed? (you see a lot of old pickup beds spraddled that way)

Anyway it had a 318 and after not too long it started burning a lot of oil. He had to pull the spark plugs and clean them about every 1000 miles.

Yeah, thew general body style stayed the same 61-71, but somewhere around '64-ish they changed some things. The read axle was farther forward at first, narrow tailgate, round tail lights, and small rear window/big window option

The funny thing about these trucks is, most who you see driving Dodge Trucks these days wouldn't know a thing about these trucks and wouldn't care. Here we are on this GM truck site (at least some of us) giving props to Dodge's (cool looking) ugly ducklings when most modern Dodge Boys wouldn't get excited, unless it was like this extreme build with all the latest off road upgrades. Obviously with this truck, and the few and far between other recent nice builds, the Mopar-heads are coming around.

Well, I can tell you a couple of problems that affected the truck's popularity. First, look at that wheelbase and where that rear wheel is placed. There's more bed behind it than in front of it, and looks awkward. They fixed at some point, like on the keychain. Second, I'm not sure what people thought of Don Knotts in the 60s, but in the 70s he was a popular comedic actor, but not somebody you would emulate. You wouldn't drive something that Don Knotts drove - just because he drove it... And you wouldn't expect to see him in a truck either. Marketing is subjective and those are my subjective opinions. I think a short bed would look cool.
