Re: even if you dont like Dodges

I don't know who the heck it was (we live in a fairly insular rural neighborhood) but I actually followed one of those old Dodges puttering down the road towards the fire hall this afternoon. It had a utility bed on it with some sort of weird mast sticking up about 4-5' in the middle.

I've never seen it in the neighborhood before.

Actually, the guy down the road about a mile has several old classic Dodge trucks (1940s/1950s?) in perfect condition. He keeps them inside but once in a while I see him out driving one of them.

I don't think the ugly 1960s vintage with the utility bed is one of his.

Re: even if you dont like Dodges

And Dodge made the Snow Commander. I'm not sure how it went, but they also made ones called Sno-Fiters and those were a deal together with Meyers Snow Plows. They never interested me because I didn't like the Dodges with no external front hubs and Meyers Plows sucked, too (IMO) . The old ones were tougher for the job anyway, and that's what I liked

Mongo, I was thinking you picked the perfect wording for this thread's title, "Even if you don't like Dodges". I know I don't like Dodges and I really like that truck. Maybe you can tell, but I like the '61-'71 Dodge Trucks. I owned the one, which I really liked, but I also learned to not like Dodge by owning it. Of the big 3, Dodge was ahead of the game with trucks in the '60s. Not in every way. In ways they were behind the times, too. '71 was the same body style as '61 and they still had leaf spring solid beam front ends. But that's a truck, so both are ok. They were ahead by offering the fullest line of 4wds. Also, they offered a Crew Cab with long or short bed. For 4wds, they had 1t 4wds (W300) as well as a W500 medium duty factory 4wd. You could get a short bed 4wd 3/4t. That's right, a short bed 8-lugger with full-floating Dana60 rear.

Re: even if you dont like Dodges

And IH was doing all that in the late 50s..
3/4t reg cab short and long and x-long ..2 and 4wd..step and bonus load (fleetside)
Travelette, which were crew cab trucks..2 and 4wd...step and bonus load
Travelalls (think suburban)..with 3 doors... 2 and 4wd

I've got a buddy that's diehard dodge...(only the old stuff)..hes got 17, I think, old dodges..
But hes really been wanting a sweptline dodge,,,,i sent him that video and he about died..

Re: even if you dont like Dodges

I was thinking of IH when I typed that, but was comparing "The Big 3". Didn't mean to leave them out. It's a shame International didn't hang on to their light truck line longer. Their time would be now since people are buying SUVs and pickups more than cars anymore.

It's International's own fault they didn't hang in with light duty. They should have had advertising like this to accurately inform the public better. I mean inform the public better??

Actually, the lettering was my handy work. I bought the truck when I returned to Maryland from living in Humboldt Co. CA. Living there is what kicked my classic truck love into overdrive. So many cool old trucks running around and the western letters on tailgate was a popular thing. When I did the frame-up I did the letters on the Utiline tailgate the same was. Might be hard to tell in this picture

Re: even if you dont like Dodges

Really nice truck. My dad was a NPS Ranger, so he had some Dodge pickups for duty, I have fondness for them. Something curious about the Hellcat engine, the a/c is used to chill the air in the supercharger.
