anyone calibrate their torque wrench ?

I've taken mine into work and checked them afterhours once using the certified CDI digital torque tester but I also purchased my own digital torque adapter

You can either use it to check your torque wrench or use it to turn your ratchet or breaker bar into a torque wrench. There is some error associated with these adapters but usually torque tolerances are pretty forgiving.

You can't exactly truly calibrate your wrench this way without a certified standard or torque tester to test them against but this will at least tell you your wrench is either reading correctly or not and you can adjust it accordingly.

Also- always make it a habit to back off the handle on your micrometer style torque wrench to the lowest setting when its not in use- this will help keep it as accurate as possible over time.

I used to work in aerospace, and we tested our torque wrenches each time before we torqued any fasteners. We had designated, calibrated torque checkers that electronically recorded the settings. It's important on spacecraft, because breaking a fastener takes 10s of thousands of dollars to repair if you're lucky. And if some fasteners don't have enough torque, the spacecraft can break during launch and ascent. One fastener might be all it took to lose the entire thing.

As for having checked mine, I haven't used it in years. I should check it before I use it next time.
