Like others after struggling to try those worthless plastic fasteners that are sold with the firewall and not wanting to spend $3 each for the rubber version I went to Lowe's and found what I consider to be a perfect substitute in the blue specialty fastener bins and they are only 83 cents for a pack of two.

Thank you 61hawk great info. Just in case someone wants a part number, they are Hillam brand #881199. 3/8 push in fasteners.

Lowes has lots of good auto fastener stuff in those hardware drawers. Yes, you can find it cheaper on Amazon/Ebay. But, when you need something as you work in the garage, and it's right around the corner...

I used Hillman well nuts on the inside and stainless steel bolts and washers on the engine side, (an idea I got from someone on this forum). It's a two person job though.

Do you know how many I will need? Want to get them now so later when I purchase the fire wall pad I already have available. Thanx.

I went to Lowes this morning, I bought out the last 5 packets (10) fasteners, that they had.
The total with tax $4.27

My truck has factory air and only required 4-5, but I cut the firewall pad out around where the air conditioner box sits and I think I used 7. A full firewall pad probably has 8 holes, I think the LMC pad kit comes with 12 of the plastic, unusable fasteners. On factory A/C trucks they eliminated everything from the hump to the passenger kick panel.

I just picked up 4 packages of them. I am missing a few and wanted to have extras for down the road. I think I spent $3.83..money well spent!
