I flunked math class

Actually I didn't flunk. I got a D-

I think that they just wanted to get rid of me. So they passed me with a D-. They didn't want me back.

My point is that I am terrible with numbers. I tried in math and algebra. I just couldn't get it. I still can't. My wife is like a human calculator and I'm clueless.

But to the point. I want a new shift knob for my Packard 3 on the tree. I have no idea what size to get. And I know I'll screw it up and get one that doesn't fit. Any tips on how to measure this and figure it out? Keep in mind I am not good at measuring anything. Numbers and measurements spin my head. I'm lost as usual.

Re: I flunked math class

Measure it with Digital Calipers.

Then look at a Decimal to fraction chart to get the size.

Re: I flunked math class

assuming its threaded, take the existing knob to homer derpt or tractor supply and find the bolt that will screw in. you will have thread size and pitch.

assuming its missing the knob, get your jar of spare nuts, find one that threads on, take it to homer derp or tractor supply and find the bolt that will screw in. you will have thread size and pitch.

On the note of digital calipers, many of those now can automatically covert between SAE, Metric, and Fractions at the push of a button. Pretty handy for a really quick conversion to the standard you understand best!

Re: I flunked math class

Just get an assortment of nuts that appear to be about the same size, a little bigger, and a little smaller. When you are done you can keep them in a coffee can marked "Paul's thread calipers".

Just one question. If Jill has one puppy and Jack has two, how many...............
