Re: Project "Jezebel"

Now for the rear section. This one was a little easier to fit so it was your standard mark patch, cut, mark bad spot to be cut out, trim, fit, tack, weld and grind job.

Re: Project "Jezebel"

Very nice work on the fender cup Steve. It's hard to believe how far off that was. I am just getting into some rust repair on mine. So far my biggest complaints, they use thinner metal than the original. The cab supports were quite a bit thinner and they don't remotely fit like the originals. I'm not sure it wouldn't be faster if I had a shear, brake and forming equipment to make some of the panels. Basically you have to re-shape them all but some are worse than others. I'm looking forward to updates on this one for sure. One of my favorites.

Oh yeah, how bout the tide? Congrats!

Thanks, I know it's hard to make perfect repop parts but it just kills me knowing how long TriPlus has been doing business that they have not worked their QA out.

Thanks Mike for the compliments on the work and the Tide!

One thing I have learned, you may already know this, but when you go to weld two pieces of metal together of different thicknesses, start the weld on the thicker piece. I have found that this helps me from burning through and get to get full weld penetration.

Next to the hood. The lip had a spot that needed replaced. No patch panels available that I know of so I had to sheer and brake a piece for it.

One last pic of showing how I recreated the edge to make it look factory.

The next project was a missing captive nut in the drivers side A pillar that secures the rear upper portion of the drivers fender. I wish I would have noticed this before I welded in the replacement cowl.

Thanks Juan but I have enough to keep me busy I think. You should have that burb done by now. You were working on that thing when I spoke with you in Birmingham during the 2010 PowerTour. Then again I was working on Jezebel back then too!

If I would have done what I really wanted to do the first time I'd be done. Nothing like doing it all over again for the 2nd time!! Lol.
But I'm sure I'm the only one who has changed direction in the middle of the build. Haha

Tell me about it. A good way to look at it is that it gets better with each change right? Your burb is going to be something you will be very proud of.

Way to go Steve! You made that old fender cup look right at home. Nice work on the nut plate and hood too. Your skills are off the charts with metal work! Keep it up.

Yea, I actually scored the paint for free! When my jobber messed up on the paint for my burb's gate and hood a while back he made it right by giving me enough paint to totally repaint the entire thing . Im going to use that paint for Jezebel. It will be close to the factory Turquoise Poly color.

Re: Project "Jezebel"

Hey guys, just wanted to let you know that I have not given up on Jezebel. I will be getting back on her soon. It seems I have cycles where I have time (and/or money) to work on her. I'm almost to the point where I start the primer/blocking stage. I hope when she gets shiny I will just press it out and get it complete. Ill post updates soon.

Here is some progress. I think I can define my door gaps as complete now! What a major pain! I never thought I would look forward to blocking, but I'm so glad that's over. Here are a few pics of the final product.

I need to adjust the door forward a smigin as you can see door to fender is a little big (.1875-.2500)
Name: 100_2234.JPG
Views: 811

Where door to cab is a little small (.1250-.1875)

Name: 100_2236.JPG

The goal for the door gaps is .1875 (3/16) before primer.

I decided to scrap the original 67 hood I spent so much time on when I found that the brace that bolts the hood to the hinges needs major work.

I guess I need to work on another plan for the hood!

How was your after market door? I used 2 and had to remove, cut and reconfigure the hoops on both. Also will have to weld up the edges to get desirable gaps. Looming good

Awesome work on the gaps Steve. I'm about to get into the same thing with my build. I found out my doors aren't as nice as I thought the other day when I took them apart. I went back and reviewed what you did on your's HERE. Where did you get your lower door patches? How did they fit? Suggestions from your experience? thanks.
