Re: Building a shop on my property ... Ideas ??

Hey John,

Hmmm...A barn/shop...here is what I built a couple of years ago. For me, this is a dream garage. It is called Hilltop Rod Shop. I put a lot of thought into some cool features of the barn that i won't go into...that makes it a great shop. This is a hobby shop, not a business. I post very, very seldom due to a busy schedule so I don't remember the tricks of reducing pics and stuff. I think my wife put something on Hub Garage too. Here is a link to the barn build...just go to the end of the pictures, sorry there are so many.

Copy and paste link below. Sorry I can't post a pic.

Edited above link and adding a couple more:

Here are a few shots of our retro barn/garage. The attached photo shows the whole barn and was taken on 12/26/2010. (I couldnt attach photo, it was too big. It’s 32x40 or 1280 sq foot downstairs. 20x40 or 800 sq foot upstairs. Twelve foot ceiling downstairs. The really cool part are the overhangs….52 foot long on the front (the front being where the porch is) and 52 foot on the back and 56 foot on the right side…but that is actually counting the corners twice…all extend out 12 foot. That’s 1632 sq foot of overhang space which is one of the coolest features of the barn. All of them are concreted and big enough to pull a car up onto, including the "front porch". They are angled where you can wash a car up there, also good for polishing in good outside light.

I've been gathering vintage shop tools for it. So far I have:
-a working 1954 Brunner air compressor
-a working mid sixties Trinco glass beading cabinet
-a working 1967 SUN diagnostic machine with working oscilloscope
-a gantry crane with trolley and IBeam & chain hoist all from the fifties
-antique warehouse lights and so on
-I have my deceased mom's original Buck Stove in there
-a complete HVAC that isn't hooked up yet (leftover from upgrading home unit before 1500 tax credit expired)
-many miscellaneous such as an old turn of the century oak desk
-porch and interior decorated with many antiques and donated items from friends, along with many reproduction signs etc
-old red reproduction phone booth that will be a paint booth with fan and heater for painting smaller parts.
-hole in floor to lift heavy objects to the second floor
-2x6 walls for R-19 insulation
-floor drain, plumbing and so on
-interior will be all tonque and grove paneling that my friend cut for me.
-Rotary 2 post lift
I plan to have some Burma Shave signs going up the secondary drive up to my old fashioned barn/garage.
Unless I come up with something better, they’ll say:

If you like Americana,
And yester-year,
Drive up the hill,
And you’ll find that here….

Burma Shave

Thanks, G
