Fuel System Charcoal Canister Replacement - How To

My 2004 Z71 Tahoe developed the irritating habit of not allowing me to fill the gas tank without endless click-offs as if the tank were full. It would take 15 minutes to fill the tank if it was nearly empty. And, from time to time I'd get the check engine light with a P0449 code on my reader.

So, following some research, I determined that the culprit was the VALVE, Evaporative Emission Canister VENT SOLENOID located just above the rear differential near the rear of the gas tank. That's the black canister just to the right of the tailpipe.

It's #2 in this drawing. The arrow on the drawing points to the front of the Tahoe.

This is a new one.

The part numbers: ACDelco # - 214-2149 GM# - 25932571

After soaking the slide-on bracket with Release-All (that's the liquid you see), I was able to work it loose. It's hanging by the hose in this photo. The place it was mounted is directly above it and slightly to the left.

Here is a view showing it above the rear diff.

After removing the canister, you can see the hose and the wiring harness. Both were attached to the canister with clips. The wiring clip was easy to remove. The hose clip is a little harder to get to and a bit stubborn. Also, the location doesn't help. I wouldn't want to try this without my new hoist.

After taking the old one apart, I found nothing but a charcoal filter and lots of gray (grey?) coloured dust inside.

So, what was the result? As soon as I got the new canister installed, I went to the local gas station and pumped $75 worth into the almost empty tank...full blast....and it didn't click off once until the tank was full.

Yeah!

My 08 Silverado is doing the same thing.
I just figured it was the gun or a tight bend
in the filler hose to the tank. I had to wait
until mid December to read this ???? Guess
I'll have to try this anyway.
Thanks for the info.
