Painted door edge guards?

I have a set of NOS door edge guards and was thinking about painting them body color and putting them on my truck. Anyone else do this? Or is it just a silly idea?

They would stand out too much on a black truck with no side trim if I left the chrome shiny, that's why the paint (or powder coat).

I think if it were me (opinion only), if I didn't like how the bright ones would stand out on a solid black truck, I'd just leave them off completely. If you pc them, you may not be able to get them on the door (but not sure - but just be aware the inner surfaces will be thicker just like the outer). My gut feeling is that they might not look right painted. Now, everyone's definition of "right" is different, ha, so it just comes down to personal taste. I agree with you that the shiny ones stand out a bit, especially on a dark truck with no trim.

I'd leave them off, too, for the same reason, and... Painting them defeats their purpose. Ok, so you chip the guard instead of the door. But you'll look at them and know they are supposed to be bright stainless. It's a vehicle you want clean and smooth, so why go sticking things on it? I'd say the same about vent visors. If you don't want them to stand out, don't put them on.

If you are tinting the windows, maybe it would look good with black paint. I made some chrome things go away (like rear fender struts and horseshoe oil tank) on my black FLST to allow the chrome I wanted to stand out show better

I powder coated stainless vent visors on the '90 Blazer I had right away. It was solid red with a black top. GM had taken a lot of chrome off the '88-up square bodies, like around the windows. I got the windows tinted dark and felt the vent visors belonged being black. By then the current style vehicles went to the smoked plastic ones. It was half in the '70s and half in 1990 with some chrome staying and other stuff now black, like windshield wipers/mirrors, or gone like fender emblems. I wanted to powder coat the door handles but never did. Also wanted to powder coat the brushed part of the tailgate trim panel, only leaving the thin outer chrome that went with the tail light chrome. I put no trim front side markers on and powder coated the rallyes gloss black. Left the trim rings off and stripped the argent paint to expose chrome on the center cap flanges. I did some of what I wanted before accepting how it was. I just wanted to minimize the chrome a little more.

Ive have the look for my panel all worked out. Just enough chrome (in my eyes) but was thinking because I like the vents on my everyday truck and the door edge guards would prevent actual chipping maybe if I hid them in black they would be ok.

You are going to be way too careful with that panel to need door edge guards. I used to have to have them on my trucks, because I was all about having the options. I added them to trucks that never came with them. But I can't imagine bumping anything with my door when opening it. I know to be careful and I am. I never just flail the door open even in a junky vehicle.
