spring length

I did a search because i know there's been a topic on this. But i cant find it.

Anyway......i just noticed my rig has a 4" lift kit with 6" (4"+2") blocks in the rear and 2" blocks in the front. I can live with the stacked blocks in the rear but blocks in the front is a no-no.

Will the 73-up front springs fit my 72?

I want a full 6" arched spring for the front, but no-body is showing kits for anything older than a 73.

Anyone have any suggestions for me?

When I got my 70 K5 it had front springs that I believe were from a 73-up, they were too long. The rear of the spring was almost touching the frame.

Got to www.offroaddesign.com and you will see they have 4 and 6" front Tuff Country springs for our vehicles.

Back when I got my first blazer back in 1981 there were limited block kits available. An old guy who worked at a spring place that handled from from cars to semi's said to get a matching set of springs. It didn't matter what truck they came from as long as the width was good. Anyway pick 2 to 3 springs that meet where you would want on your old spring. If you need to cut them you can. You can also test it, You have new center bolts put your springs in place then tighten them up. Take some mark measurements before hand of the bumper or something. Anyway mine has been like that since 81. Another one I did and sold. The people were impressed by how it handled and rode. You can get the lift you want without the blocks Also more support and less flexing than with the blocks. No different than ordering a 2 in lift set of springs etc. But far cheaper.

Go to a spring shop and have them rearch your springs and or buy new. Not all lift companies cover our years, but some do, find them. Call Summit or Jegs or 4wheelparts.com

So are you saying just stack 2" thick of other leaf's to replace the blocks?

Not Exactly. If you go to Ebay and look under blazers a board member is selling windsheild frames. Search his other items. He is selling springs that are 2in lift for a 3/4 truck. When you look at the springs there might be 1or 2 more leafsprings in the bundle that gave it 2 inches of lift. My dad who is a retired Service station owner dealt with the old spring guy. He got the springs. But its just like getting your spring rearched the higher up the leafs you push up meaning longer springs added the higher the lift. I ask my dad about it and he said that where they used this a lot on big truck was it was a quick and efficient way to add lift on a truck whose springs were starting to sag. Then they coverted to using it on 4x4's when the lifting craze started. I know I am rambling but to sum it up the longer the springs you add the higher the lift but also stiffer. A good rule of thumb is to pull back a few inches from the last to tapper them down. Again you can test it pretty easily. once you lower the springs back down on the axle. Its giving you a pretty true reading without the u bolts on it. Don't like it undue the center bolt thats compressing the springs add or subtract. The reason why I said go to the ebay listing to see the springs Is if you found a listing specific for our trucks that said 2 inch lift. It would be stock springs with leafs added

Call them up, most good companies have them.
I used super lift soft ride back in the early 90's on a blazer then later has them on a 78 I bought. Did great. I still have the 6" springs front and rear awaiting my BB swap in a 72 burb.
I would go for flexable type springs, more thinner leaves than a couple of thick ones.

I did find that superlift has 6" arched springs for the front for $300 for the pair, thats prolly the route ill go. I also learned our blazers have 46" front springs and 52" rear spring, just for some added info.

4Wheel offroad has the complete 6" all spring complete kit for our trucks for $800 he said it included everything needed for 6" lift except driveline

Most places offer a complete Frt. and Rear all spring kit for around $750

This rig has been a nightmare since i got it. its my dailey driver and ive only put 2k miles in 6 months, because its always broke. But yes for some reason i just never saw the blocks in the front. I'm actually debating going for the 8" arched spring. Not sure yet. No big hurry cxause i blew the tranny last week and the rig is sidelined again.

I have 8" on mine - and it's HUGE. Maybe a little too big - I have 37s - and it clears with ease. But then it wasn't clear to me that 6" would clear 37s -

With 8" - I've seen some people on the net clearing 42s.

My lift is 8" front Skyjacker springs (from Summit Racing to get price matching & free shipping), and in the rear: 4" blocks & Offroaddesign.com shackle flip.

It looks pretty beefy coming down the road though!

I ordered the 01-255 superlift springs which is just the 6" springs about an hour ago. I decided that the 8" kit could cost me alot, like longer shocks, drive shaft, steering arm etc..... my plan was to put the 8" kit in and take out the 3" of body lift, but i decided not to go that route and just stick with the 9" total lift, fixing the block issue in the front.
