I inherited my fathers 69 GMC Stepside Model CS1570C, has an excellent running 250 inline 6 cylinder, 3 speed automatic, I plan on doing a complete original body restoration and keep it as original as I can as this truck holds a lot of memories. I'm open to all ideas and suggestions as I am new to restoring.

where it began....1971 the PO in San Bernardino in 2012 INL6 3 OTT cleaned him up added some new parts made a daily driver working truck for me for 10 years started the rebuild in 22... now 67 wanna be 327 m20 373 posi where it is today almost done ..my build thread "I am from the Desert" .....Happy Motoring...

Look Ma, no sidemarkers.
There is an allure for a 327 in a shortbed smallwindow stepside that's flat out cool. I will admit.

So I'll ask about the L6 that came out... Was it a 230? 230 L6 heads were supposed to be tighter and have smaller stuff -- making for a free compression boost if bolted on a larger L6 like a 292. If they don't blow up.
250 is the most common. MY 1967 was the last year for 230s in trucks.
The 292 [4.8L] started in MY 1963. And continued until the GMT 400.

if memory is right a 250 no offense to anyone I considered them 250s boat anchors but did sell it to a purist so its life expectancy increased by at least another 40 years ....almost forgot about this small window 67 I was blessed to buy this out in Oregon in a pick n pull yard 16 years ago 1k shipped her east for 700.00 those were the days to remember C-20 all original custom camper 283 4 speed granny helper springs etc. lots patina great work horse for me besides finding more projects used it for picking up topsoil mulch etc. then sold her here locally
after 3 years of fun and very little problems for its age and my application just good upkeep

My recently acquired '72 Cheyenne.

It's been setting in a friends barn for the last 29 years. He had it painted and was having difficulty installing a wood bed kit, lost interest, and there it sat. I first saw it about 15 years ago. It was covered in cobwebs and dirt and not much to look at. The bed was loose. Two of the boards were missing and one was drilled wrong. When I brought it home I purchased 3 red oak boards at Home Depot and finished the bed. Last week I rebuilt the brakes and yesterday I rebuilt the Quadrajet. It's running well now. The tires have no miles on them but are dated 1994. They are out of round from sitting with low air pressure for decades. Tires, belts and hoses are next on the list of things to fix.

Thanks! I'm having fun getting it back on the road. Before I bolted the Quadrajet back on I pulled the distributor and chucked it up in my old Sun distributor tester. When I spun it up I was getting 18° advance at 6000 RPM.

After cleaning and oiling the advance weights and installing lighter springs I now have 18° mechanical advance all in at 3200 RPM. I also installed a new "B1" vacuum advance can with a limiter set to 16°. It's still running points which is fine with me. I set the initial advance at 18° giving me a total advance of 36°.

A new kit in the Quadrajet stopped the pig rich problem it was having.

It fired right up and idled smooth. After some minor carburetor adjustments I took it for a test drive. The old 350 is running great and is much more fun to drive after the tune-up.

Next on the list is fix the fuel and temperature gauge, new tires, and a wheel alignment. After that i will tackle the air conditioning.

That engine bay looks to be very original. Cal smog pump and manifold stove pipe. And a pretty valuable proportioning valve. A really nice time capsule. Be sure to keep this one original. Good reference example. Very nice truck.
