Re: Lets see those BUDDY BUCKETS!!!!!!!

Finally got around to re-upholster my buddy buckets last night, just need to clean and paint the slider to consider them done. Added a couple of stainless steel cupholders to the seat back as well.

One question, might be lame, but here goes.
The strap with the velcro, on top of the buddy seat foldable back, what's it's purpose?

Re: Lets see those BUDDY BUCKETS!!!!!!!

I tore apart my buddy bucket seats in preparation for restoring them. Here are a bunch of photos of the internals.

The upper upholstery is stapled closed.

Re: Lets see those BUDDY BUCKETS!!!!!!!

I sure hope I'm able to reuse this rubber U-channel. I'm going to flip it over so the new staples go into a fresh side. The original staple side has some cracks starting to form in it.

The bottom flaps of the seat back upholstery overlap and are stapled to the dense rubber U-channel.

Hog ring dimensions.

There are cardboard stiffeners stapled to sections of the lower upholstery that tuck up under the upper upholstery.

The seat bottom upholstery is secured with one steel listing wire in the back and hog rings along the sides and front.

Re: Lets see those BUDDY BUCKETS!!!!!!!

The passenger side foam was in decent condition other than reeking of mildew.

Re: Lets see those BUDDY BUCKETS!!!!!!!

There is a gridwork of thin steel wires molded into the bottom cushion. It is attached to the lower springs with four pieces of fine rope.

I believe these seats are 1967 model year. The driver seat tilts, and the passenger side is fixed.

Re: Lets see those BUDDY BUCKETS!!!!!!!

That brown stripe is a rip in the foam that appears to have been repaired in the factory.

Here are some photos of the reassembly of my seats. I used spray adhesive to glue the cloth sections of the upholstery to the foam so that it wouldn't be loose.

Re: Lets see those BUDDY BUCKETS!!!!!!!

I had to add a layer of 1/2" foam to the front surface of the bottom foam because the upholstery was slightly larger than the ACI foam.

The upholstery set was made by Rick's Upholstery.

Thank you. Yep, I've put a lot of hours into them. It's been a fun project. I'm planning on assembling the passenger seat this afternoon.

Very well documented and a testament to patience. Knowing how much documenting a project takes, your effort is appreciated.
