Re: Mike's 66 C10 Short Step Build

Haven't posted in a while but I have been working on the truck here and there and got a lot done! Going together pretty good. Mounted up the door and the door gaps were great considering I had everything cut out. The hole for the body mount was in the wrong spot in the new floor pan so I cut it out and welded in a new piece. I'll drill up from the bottom of the body mount to make the new hole. Lots more welding and grinding to do!! LOL

Everything lined up nice and straight on the sheet metal work.
Lot of good work there.

Looking good man. I here you on finishing the cab. I almost have mine done. The roof and the back wall and then it is ready for some paint. I welded my gas tank brackets back in this morning.

Re: Mike's 66 C10 Short Step Build

So after cutting out the "Patch" the original owner welded in under the pedals years ago to cover up the rust this is what I found. Believe it or not there is actually less work on the Drivers side then there was on the Pass side. I've learned a lot so the DS should go a lot faster.

Thanks! I don't mind working on the cab but I'd much rather be working on the suspension, and the drivetrain. I'll be removing my gas tank brackets as I'm relocating the tank to the back. I have a very small patch I have to make to the back wall of my cab on the very bottom.

Rust repair is almost complete on the cab. Still have to finish the lower A pillar patch and lots of grinding to finish off the welds. Can't wait to start on the fun stuff!!

My boy wanted to help me wire brush the frame on our C10 but he's a little too young yet. LOL He loves "his" truck!

Re: Mike's 66 C10 Short Step Build

It's been almost exactly 10 months now in the build of my C10. Cab is structurally sound now. The bracing I welded in at the start of the cab repair can now be removed!!

Re: Mike's 66 C10 Short Step Build

Support bracing all removed. Also removed all the wiring, steering column, and gauge cluster from the dash. Lots more work to do yet. Have to remove the gas tank mounts and lots of sanding.

Also pulled the engine and trans! My boy helped me pull the engine. This was his first time pulling an engine. He did a great job! We made a mess though... Here are some pictures.

Re: Mike's 66 C10 Short Step Build

I love the work you have done here....I have a very similar project as far as the rotted floors and rockers. Everybody always asks, so I'll be THAT guy who made your patch panels??? Any additional problems with fit aside from the holes in the floors??

Re: Mike's 66 C10 Short Step Build

Thanks again guys!!

Rareform all the panels came from Top Banana in Va. I have had good luck with them. All the parts they sell are also Keyparts. The only real fitment issue was the body mount holes and the holes where the support braces bolt to the lower A pillar. I had to replace the bottoms of the A and B pillars on both sides so I was able to make everything work and just opened up the bolt holes. http://www.topbananaparts.com/

Just be sure to take your time and take measurements before you start cutting. If yours needs as much rust repair as mine I would consider welding support bracing inside the cab to keep it square. If you have any other questions feel free to ask!
