4x4 Frame Fabrication

Heres some pix of my current repair/project. Gonna weld and reinforce the front driver side spring mount on my 71 Blazer. The 1st pic shows where the frame is bent where one of the lower vertical spring mount bolts in. Also all 4 horizontal bolt holes have been ovaled out. I'm gonna truss the heck out of it and maybe add a cross member to the other side at the back of the mount. The second pic shows my homemade steering box brace. The third pic shows how we raised the front bumper to match the bodylift and fabbed a new ultra heavy duty front cross member and front receiver hitch mount. I'll ad pix as I weld up the spring mount.

Re: 4x4 Frame Fabrication

I added a crossmember between the front mounts on mine as well. You got to do somthing with the flimsy spring mounts these things come with.

Re: 4x4 Frame Fabrication

I too reinforced my front frame rails. I used 2x2 square tubing.

Black paint makes it kinda hard to see...

That bar that is not painted was the old aftermarket sway bar I use to run but I did not reinstall it after I put the 454 in.
I added the angeled 'gussets' after the crossbar so they are a touch higher than the cross bar. I added a piece of angle iron to the top of the cross bar were the gusset meets the crossbar. this allows the gusset to have full contact witht he cross bar even though I had to mount then a bit higer to fit inbetween the bumper mounting bolts...I hope that makes sence...

Now my front is WAY strong...and I even tested this wheeling

Re: 4x4 Frame Fabrication

Heres the almost finished spring mount. All 1/4" steel. Backyard engineering for me always turns into overkill

Re: 4x4 Frame Fabrication

Shes back together. Now I JUST have a little more welding to do, build another one for the other side and build a crossmember.
