1985 Chevy Tilt column brake down diagram - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Hey Guys . I have a tilt column in my 85 chevy truck that the tilting lock mechanism has broken allowing the steering column to move up and down freely. I herd it snap back in January when it was -20 here . now it will not lock in place. Just wanting a brake down diagram as to see how to take it apart and also see what part I may need.
Any help is appreciated.

You need Adobe Acrobat Reader or one of the many clones to open PDF files.

GMPartswiki.com has my scans of the parts books but they are a page at a time.

That write up is awesome, I have used it a few times to tighten up the tilt bolts that always loosen up.

Is it as hard as it looks? Are all the specialty tools necessary?
I'm afraid I'll get it apart and never get it together again.

Depending on how deep you get in tearing the column apart, you will need this tool.

A buddy of mine said he could get to 2 of the 3 screws in 5 minutes. That's all he ever tightens.
