K20 - D60/14B swap ?'s

I'm looking into swapping my D44 and possibly my Eaton for a D60/14B. I am building my truck from the axles up. The "off-roading" I will be doing is sled pulling and I want stout axles. Will a SRW D60 bolt right up? Will I be relocating mounts/perches/linkage? What about drive shaft ends? As for the rear, I'd love to keep the Eaton, but I need to know exactly what 14B parts interchange. If I get a pair of axles for the right price then I'll probably go ahead an swap them both. I had more ?'s ...but I'll have to remember them.

The D60 will bolt right up in place of your existing front axle. It will raise the front end up about 1". I'm not sure if you will run into a driveshaft issue, seems I've read you might have to shorten yours. I've got this same swap planned for the front axle in my 69.

I don't know if your front brake lines will need any adapters. Seems there was a post on here about 6 months ago or so about this swap.

A 14 bolt's detroit will work in an Eaton but you have to change to 14 bolt axles. I've read you usually have to cut a little lenght off the axle shafts to make it work.

There are some great posts over on pirate4x4.com about the Eaton/14 bolt interchangability.

Re: K20 - D60/14B swap ?'s

I Dont Know If There Are Any Different Eaton Rears But I Have A 69 With An Eaton Rear And The Axles Are Bigger Than The 14 Bolt. There Are At Least 3 Different 14 Bolt Rears. One Is Better Than The Rest. And The Parts Are Not Interchangable. I Found That Out From Florida Power Train In Ocala, Florida When I Brore A Pinion.

As Far As The D60 Goes If It For Sure Came Out Of A Chevy It Will Bolt Right In. If It Is A D60 Out Of A Dodge The Holes That The Spring Pins Go In Are 1 Inch Wider. That Is A Half Inch On Each Side. Dont Sound Like Much But It Is Especially With Stock Springs Or Small Lift Springs. I Did One Recently With 12 Inch Springs And A Dodge D60 It Was Not Bad.

I Prefer The D70 Rear Or The Eaton Over The 14 Bolt. I Dont Know If It Is That I Run Into More Of The Weaker 14's Or What But They Just Dont Seem To Hold Up. But Then Again I Get Pretty Rough At Times.

I prefer the D60/HO52 combination.I don`t need all that heavy axle in the rear. The HO52 is just as stout as the 14-boltFF without the weight and bulk.I never had the need for more rear axle.

Should not have to swap brake hoses. Banjo bolts will work for the hose. Later model 60's went with a 10MM banjo, but work with the old hoses.

Later model 1 ton rear axles maintain the same spring pad spacing as the first gens.

Driveshafts should fit, but you will need a conversion u-joint.
