cool story. past to present

sometime in the mid-eighties, i built a 51 chevy truck in a little 2-car garage that was rented from a friend. it is a 3 window 1 ton stake bed. took it back to the frame and spent a year working evenings and weekends on a total rebuild. changed to 235 motor and 12v, added a few then-new lights but other than that its completely stock... the day i finished the truck and pulled it out of my friends garage, just about to take it for a test drive, this guy pulled up and wanted to buy my 1 ton. 7500 dollars changed hands and he took my test drive... gone!

fast forward to last week. this little old guy of 87 years came by our place with battery problems on his car and wanted me to come out to his house and see if i could fix it.

low and behold, he's the guy that bought my 1 ton, 25 years ago.

yesterday i went back to his place and picked up the truck. he drove it to his house from that old 2-car garage, put it in his shed and never started it again.

my task is to re-restore the truck, get it running again, buff out the 25 year old paint and make the old guy proud again.

this story will probably get bumped somewhere else but because i hang with the 60-66 guys, i wanted to share it here first.

check it out... all that's happened is i rinsed off the dust.

25 years...
i'm amazed how nice it still is.

Unbelievable! Thanks for sharing the story. It must be nice to know what became of all that investment long ago.

Re: cool story. past to present

That's a great story. I had to pull the wife over and tell her - her first question was "Well did he buy it back?" heh!

That's a good looking truck too. I can't imagine not driving it around. A truck like that needs to be set free!

Wow, cool story. I have had several over the years I would like to find again especially the first car I had. It was a 55 Chevrolet 2 door sedan. I would give almost anything to have it back.

Re: cool story. past to present

Very cool story. I can't believe the guy bought it, and then just parked it, but it did preserve the truck. At least now you have gotten that test drive, you did not get 25 years ago
