94 Sonoma Tranny trouble ? Need some advice.

I am getting a 94 GMC Sonoma 2wd. 4.3 auto overdrive. guessing it is the 4l60E.
I haven't seen it or driven it yet. MY Dad found it and he is telling me about it.
Well anyways, Here is what I was told. Shifts fine up through the gears from take off, but when you kick it out of overdrive, going up hill or something. It won't go back in with out playing with the throttle or it takes a long time to go back into overdrive.
Any suggestions???????

TV cable out of adjustment? Fluid and filter change time? That would be my first two things to look at.
