Tremec 4050 install
Has anybody done a Tremec 4050 install into a K model pickup? Silver Sport has put together a kit that will convert your truck to a manual shift retaining the NP205 Transfer Case. Has anybody on this forum done this conversion and if so, how did it go? They have quoted me over 6000 dollars for the complete kit. Pricey conversion but there is a lot to swap if you are starting with an automatic. Thanks, Jack

Re: Tremec 4050 install
Interesting...not sure if it's over $6000 interesting , but that would be sweet...high torque rating, low 1st..
I dont recall seeing one done..

Re: Tremec 4050 install
Curious what they are using to convert the 205 so it will bolt on. Different output? conversion sleeve?

Re: Tremec 4050 install
Not sure. I have looked at a couple of conversions I can't remember which ones required what without revisiting them. I just swapped my TH350 for a 700R4. There was quite a few issues to deal with to make it fit but I eventually got them worked out. That required a sleeve. It turned out to be a nice clean install, but I just can't get used to an automatic. It feels sloppy and loose to me. Maybe I will get used to it.

Re: Tremec 4050 install
Did you end up installing the Tremec 4050? I'm interested in this as well. Wondering how involved it is. TYIA.

Re: Tremec 4050 install
The truck was originally a 4 speed manual that someone put a 700r4 into. It also has a 90’s crate 383. Silver Sport was great to work with, and we only got sent 1 wrong part, which they quickly shipped the correct part (flywheel) even though we didn’t start on the project until 6 months after receiving the kit. We had to replace the adapter on the transfer case, and the input shaft, as the adapter for the 700r4 obviously does not work. The kit comes with the adapter, we had to purchase the correct spline input shaft. There are a few great videos on YouTube for this process. It’s not bad. We went with the hydraulic clutch, and while we were there, upgraded to Baer MC for the brake system, switched out the CPP automatic column to a Flaming River tilt manual column, and replaced the steering box to a quick ratio. Some of the hardest bits we’re dealing with the weight of the np205, that sucker is heavy! The shifter moved closer to the transfer case shifter than stock, so I found a Jeep double shifter boot. It looks like it will fit fairly well. We are currently at the step to bleed the clutch, and do the engine on test. It’s been a long wait, and I can’t wait to drive it. I will update when we are complete.

Re: Tremec 4050 install
Underneath: Transfer case mount, new position. not sure where the stock position would be as we bought this truck with the 700r4 installed. Tremec adapter, transmission and bell housing, mini starter. We also had he drive shafts resized and are adding Ruffstuff disc brakes to the back!

very interested in a 40/50 now that ive had time to research them more.. i just wish they would hurry up with the 2wd version ...SS said it would be released last yr, but its still not available as of yet how much angle do you have you output set to? ( 1st pic in post 11)..it may just be the picture but it looks kinda extreme

Re: Tremec 4050 install
What adapter kit did you use between the Tremec and NP205? I need something like the cylinder portion of that adapter to mount up to my GM NP205. Awesome rig!

Re: Tremec 4050 install
We bought the kit from Silversport, and it came with an Advanced Adapters adapter. We had to change the output because the previous owner converted my truck from manual to auto with a 700r4. I would not recommend the Silversport kit, I actually don’t think they had sold one before we bought it. We had a lot of re-working to do on the clutch pedal slave cylinder (ended up with a complete pedal kit from AA, and it is awesome!), had to have a machine shop make a special shim for the hydraulic clutch, and a few other things. The transmission is fantastic. Shifts great.
