2002 Center Compartment Door Spring

howdy y'all! hopefully someone can shed some light on this for me..

it's a 2002 GMC Sierra SLE am/fm/cd only, the pocket above that is an empty cubby..

at just under 200k miles, that little spring pictured below that holds up that small compartment door is broken..

I can't find it by various description searches, does anyone have a part name or part number for that?

looks almost like an M16 trigger spring but a little smaller

also will need to know how to remove the door to install spring I suppose..

any help is much appreciated, thank you!

Re: 2002 Center Compartment Door Spring

GM is real nice about only providing interior trim as assemblies. Springs, latches, and other bits that break are not available as separate parts.

The latches on the T900 three cupholder jump seat covers are famous for breaking and they're only available if you buy the whole lid.

Those little springs are probably shaped similar to a mousetrap. Two ears, two coils and a flat bail in the centre.

McMaster Carr might have what you're looking for.

They could be carefully wound up on some drill rod out of straight pieces of piano wire. It'll try your patience but it's not impossible.
Here's an amusing "How It's Made" parody with some useful information on how to do it.
