Hey everyone, im trying to remove my passenger side outer bed panel on my 68 . Ive got the bolts loose, but im sure as some of u know, u can only loosen them so far and then they just start to spin. So do u attach vise grips to the inside? Or are their some other methods u have tried that work?

Also if anyone has some pics of the actual removal of the outer bed panel that would be great, i understand the basic concept of how it is on their, but im sort of afraid that removing it i wont be able to get it back on their right haha, so if anyone has any advice or pics of the removal process/ putting back on that would be very useful right now lol

i would mark how many bolts and what size they are and get the exact ones from lowes then go out and grind all the bolts off take the bedside off do whatcha got to do then bolt it back on with the new bolts

Too late now, but I usually tighten the bolts till the snap. Also, don't forget the four hidden bolts at the rear bottom (don't tighten them off) or the 2 spot weld on both sides.

Ya, i thought about maybe tack welding the top of them in place, but i wanna be able to take them out completely.

I may have to end up just cutting them all off, I really dont wanna have to but........... i may have no choice.

lol .. i tacked them on. it worked... but if you havenjt tried them all the best way is to tighten them and have them brak.. either way your bolts are ruined..... not a bad sacrifice for lots of time...

I also tacked all mine in place.. Dont forget to cut the weld from the factory on the rear bedside area near the tailgate hinge..

I don't have a pic but its right at the lower rear corner of the bedside and bed floor ... Hope that makes sense..

weld nuts on top of the carrige bolts and use a wrench to keep them from spinning and rounding out the square holes.

Thanks u guys for more info.

i tried the whole tightening them down thing, and it worked for some.

Some of them though i tightened down and then the nut just began to spin, i think it may have just spun the threads off.

Some of them i latched onto with a pair of vice grips, and bent them back and forth till they broke, lol.

A couple are stubborn though, im gonna have to try and weasel a slitter wheel in their or something, i think its gonna be harder then i imagine though......

i JUST TORE APART A LONGBED LASTNIGHT.. I WILL BE CUTTING THE FLOOR DOWN TO FIT MY SHORTBED... THE BOLTS THAT DIDNT BREAK , I just ground the heads off and ponched them through
