I am finishing up my rebuild of the '72 Dana 44. The original tie rod was shot so I picked up a nice, straight, used one from a newer model (maybe later 70's, 80's) D44.

Now that I have it together, it seems obvious that the steering stabilizer mount on the axle tube will have to be cut off and moved if I want to use it in conjunction with the hole in the tie rod.

Is that right? Would you do that or just not use it? The truck will be lifted 4".

Use the clamp on style tie rod bracket and utilize the factory axle mount.

Also the newer tierod may not clear your springs as the newer tie rod comes up through the bottom that's why they are straight the 72s are offset on the ends just a thought

Thanks for the input gents, I'll go out and check the spring clearance also look up the tie rod bracket.

If it clears you might try using the tie rod and get an OEM clamp. The clamp should bolt further inward than the existing eye hole when using an OEM style dampener. Here are some reference photos: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...9&postcount=57

Raybestos p/n 410-1003 is the correct tie rod.
