72 Woodgrain Door Panels: OEM Vs Aftermarket

I reiceived a pair of Counterpart door panel inserts for Christmas. They are aluminum like OEM. I saw some places sell plastic reproduction which was not an entertainable option for me. The reproduction from Classic Parts seem decent. They have the trim ring which most plastic aftermarket do not. Anyway, I wanted to post a few pictures so others could compare the aftermarket to the OEM woodgrain. The quality seems good, but I am not overly joyed with the grain. What do ya think? These may go back and my originals may be making a trip to Cheyennesuperman. The grain he uses looks great IMO.

I bet a pair of these NOS would go for a few bucks!

I've been looking for a set of these panels an especially the trim. I checked Classic Parts after reading your comments and could not find any such thing (panels or trim). Could I get any more info on these parts please.

My red and white truck still has pristine originals in it. My wife gets pissed when we ride in it because the first thing I do is give her a speech about rings.

Re: 72 Woodgrain Door Panels: OEM Vs Aftermarket

The Truck Shop guys set me up with a pair when they first came out and I think they look fantastic! You never see them up against OEM and 99% of the people will never know the grain "pattern" isn't an absolute exact copy. If a little detail like that matters that much, I guess they won't be good enough. But most people don't know every truck had the exact same pattern and ones that do, only so many will have the image burned into their mind. I had a set of NOS I sold but can't remember how much. Probably been over five years, so way lss than crazy like today. Like $300-$500. These crazy fools today would probably pay 3x that now.

I agree. NOS items now are crazy. Especially something like that. My truck is a nice driver. Nowhere near perfect, but nice enough I like to clean some things up like the door panels, however I don't need to spend the $ on NOS.

Re: 72 Woodgrain Door Panels: OEM Vs Aftermarket

I've seen the repros and I thought they look good. The only real giveaway is the inner metallic line that parallels the margins is painted rather than bare metal. I've got new (old) USA made examples from golden state pickup parts in my k20 and pristine examples from a 40k mi motorhome in my blazer and wouldn't hesitate to use these reproduction pieces.

X2 about the rings!

I can check for you. With the cost of fuel, how about I pay shipping both ways. One way, if I find they are incorrect and I'll just buy you a Counterpart set. I'm practical like that
