Love all the mods. Great work. Are you going to add any bracing in the middle?

Between the trailing crossmember and the front crossmember. Everything looks really well triangulated front and back I would think the center of the frame would then become the flexible section as it isn't triangulated at all.

Gotcha, I definitely considered it, but fitting everything in there gets a little tight. With the trans, driveshaft and exhaust, there isn't alot of room left, so without having everything else mocked up in the chassis I decided not to worry about it.

Re: C10BLDR's 69 Shortbed C10 Project

Well, finally bringing this back from the dead. Looks like its been a year since the last update, life has been crazy but I'm finally getting some work done again.
Bought a new house so had to put the truck back together to move it.

Here she is at the new place.

The truck just sat for awhile because I wasn't really sure what to do next. The body was pretty rough, lots of rust in the cab, bed has lots of dents and I'm not a body guy. I kept going back and forth on fixing all the rust on the current body or just finding another truck to pull the body from. After missing out on alot of trucks I tried to buy I was getting discouraged and was about ready to abandon the whole project, but then I finally managed to find a great deal on a very solid 71 GMC 3/4 ton.

Re: C10BLDR's 69 Shortbed C10 Project

After bringing the GMC home I really got excited about the project again and i hope to have it finished by spring.

I ordered some headers and an F Body oil pan

Oil pan swap was pretty easy, but the headers took some work to get fitted. had to modify the engine mount perches on both sides but they fit now.

Then I got to work tearing apart the GMC. Decided to do a short bed conversion since the bed was in way better shape than mine. It went pretty well, still have a lot more welding and grinding to do but its getting close.

New radiator support to hold the Entropy radiator.

Also picked up a lokar shifter and made all the fuel lines.

And of course I had to set the body on just to check it out!

Re: C10BLDR's 69 Shortbed C10 Project

Next up is a little rust repair on the cab. The previous owner replaced the rockers but did a very poor job and left some rust unattended. So I am going to replace the outer floor edge, the rockers and front floor supports. Picked up all the sheetmetal from Nsane Hot Rods.

Hopefully more updates soon!

Re: C10BLDR's 69 Shortbed C10 Project

So it turns out I'm pretty terrible about keeping up with a build thread, but I have been plugging away at this thing, so here are some updates.

Got bored one evening so I took some CLR and scotch brite pads to the hood, it cleaned up nicely.

Then I pulled the cab back off the chassis and welded in some bracing so i could get to work on the rust repair.

Re: C10BLDR's 69 Shortbed C10 Project

I flipped the cab onto the back to make it easier to work with. Here's what I was working with.

I forgot to take pics of the cab supports but they were pretty bad.

Re: C10BLDR's 69 Shortbed C10 Project

I got everything tacked in place and decided to finish welding after I set the cab back on the chassis and made sure things were going to line up.

Sprayed some undercoating before I set the cab back down.

Also decided to paint the firewall before I set it back on the chassis.

Got everything welded up and started fitting the rockers. Driver side took some work to get to fit ok but the passenger side went pretty smooth.

Re: C10BLDR's 69 Shortbed C10 Project

Got everything seam sealed and painted, installed the door rubber and got the doors to fit pretty well.

Also did a little body work on the bed and matched the paint as best I could, it's far from perfect but it's fine for an old farm truck....

Starting to go back together.

Also picked up some heater delete plates, I'd like to do a Vintage Air unit in it eventually, but for now these are great.

Re: C10BLDR's 69 Shortbed C10 Project

I found a seat on craigslist for a good deal. It's out of a 88-98 chevy truck. The pup approves.

Also got an Ididit column.

Seat brackets had to be trimmed a little, and got the steering mocked up.

I'm guessing they were the tie down points from an old camper, I decided to just leave them.

Dig your build! Where did you get the new balljoint cups from to mod the trailing arms?

Re: C10BLDR's 69 Shortbed C10 Project

Nice work on this truck. Did moving the lower a-arm ball-joint help center the tire?

I had one of those seats recovered for my jimmy build. It came out pretty nice.

Good luck, Rg

Re: C10BLDR's 69 Shortbed C10 Project

Time to update this thread, looks like I lost a bunch of my photos on photobucket but I think I'll just pick up where i left off. I brought the truck over to my buddies shop and had him wire the motor, finish some plumbing, make all new stainless brake lines and install the True-trac in the rear diff.
