Repainting shop equipment question

I have an Excaliber engine hoist I loaned to a friend who left it outside and, of course, it rusted. I always kept it inside, like new, so I can't stand it like it is.

I constructed a temporary tank out of lumber to submerge the pieces in to de-rust using the electrolysis proceedure.

My question is how do I prime/paint the inside of the (3"x3" and 2 1/2" x 3 1/2") tubing after de-rusting? Some pieces are over 4 1/2' long.

I purchased a 6-inch round chimney brush to "scrub" the insides but spraying the inside of such long tubes have me stumped.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

I would suggest you paint all the outsides and then coat the insides with oil. I let it drip till it stops and then reassemble. it will stop the rust for a long time indoors

Ziebart sprayed a rust inhibator into all areas of the vechile including frams & rockers you need some kind of wand with a 360 degree spray nozzel. I would check tractor supply or a bug man.

Re: Repainting shop equipment question

erikoj, I know this should work but I really want to paint it like it was before. I may, however, end up doing the oil thing eventually. Thanks

Tinkermc, I had my sandblasted frame liberally dowsed in the stuff at Ziebart. All they talked about was how expensive it was. If I can find something to spray two feet I'll be good. Eastwood has a setup but two cans was expensive (I'm a tight-wad) and the shipping killed the deal for me. Just looking for a "homegrown" solution thats cheap but painted! Thanks

Eastwood had a nozzle on the end of a hose which allows for spraying a coating inside rocker panels and frame rails. As has been said, paint the outside and oil the inside and you will be fine.

I use a normal weenie roller and just use a straight shaft instead of a roller handle..

Take one of those plastic rattle can spray handles, like this (http://www.globalindustrial.com/p/ou...B&gclsrc=aw.ds)

take a 6ft dowel rod and afix it to the bottom of the can ( epoxy?) whittle the end down to put your drill on it and then put a stiff wire around it to hold the trigger. while running the drill slowly, pull the work of art through your work of art....done!

Rustoeum oil base enamel . Its tuff as nails for the money. Thinned out enough to spray through a hand pump yard sprayer with a wand. Something you would normally put pesticides in spray weeds. Probably be out $30 bucks. It may work ok just pouring it in like the oil trick mentioned earlier. Be a big mess though.

Re: Repainting shop equipment question

I had to do some thing similar recently with 4" squares tube 5ft in length. What I did was buy the Rustoleum commercial grade primer and thin it 50 percent. With gloves and plastic on the floor I set up the length's of tubing with one end sealed with tape and proceeded to fill one tube up and from that I poured it into the next one until I did all 5.
I laid them out on saw horses to dry and removed the tape and wiped of the mess on the outside. I finish the outside later with the same primer and painted it with color after that. It was a little messy if you don't prepare everything right in the beginning but the inside of the tubing looked great

this sprayer from Wurth is what I use in the boxed frames and inside tight areas(door posts, A pillars, etc). it can be used with the paint of your choice. it has a circular fan spray tip on the tube end, push it in and spray as it is pulled out.

Re: Repainting shop equipment question

Guys, Thanks for all the ideas. I have a lot of things to consider now. I'll let you all know how things go. I'll even try to learn to post some pics so everyone can see the before and after. Thanks again to everyone!
