GMC 4x4 number 100 off the assembly line

I picked up this 1967 GMC 1/2 ton 4x4 about a month ago. It is a running and driving truck. Has usually it needs some attention to make it a safe driver and reliable. Everything on the truck is original including the badly dented front drivers fender. The original motor would have been a V6 305 I think. Now there is a 327 V8.

After looking at the vin plate and running it through the vin decoder for GMC it looks like I have number 100 off the assembly line the first year they made these.

I am not sure which way I will go with this truck but it is screaming at me to do a full restoration. It is just to cool to have such an original truck that only needs a few things to get it back to original equipment. It is kind of guess work since many of the 67 GMC did not have a SPID in glove box.

Here are the things I think I would need to get it back to original equipment:
-used front fender
-V6 motor
-different mirrors which I have I think
-6 lug steel rims / not sure if they had split rims or not
-not sure if the selecto hubs are original or not

Pict1 - GMC vin decoder
Pict2 - the vin plate
Pict3 - like it was when I bought it

Vin is KM1590DZC1100A
Vin breakdown
K=4wd
M=V6

59=longbed
0D=wideside

Nice truck to start with. Since the VIN starts at 1001 and your is 1100 that makes it number 99.

Re: GMC 4x4 number 100 off the assembly line

That’s one definitely worth restoring. Any 4 eye 4x4 is a special truck in my honest opinion, given the lower gmc production numbers and the lower production numbers in general for GMC and Chevy 4x4s. To find one with such A low build number makes it even more special.

Selectros are not OE. OE would be the older pre ‘70 style spicer hubs.

Thanks for the heads up. I will be on the hunt for the proper hubs now that I know what I am looking for.

Re: GMC 4x4 number 100 off the assembly line

After thinking about it and another member sent me a PM....it is number 100. If 1001 is #1,1002 is #2...1099 is #99, then 1100 is #100. Not that it really matters to me, I just thought it was a cool truck to start with. After the P.O. shared a picture of the VIN before I bought it, the VIN showing it was #100 made the cool factor go up a little bit more.

Found this picture on Google search its the look I think I would go for except keep the paint white like the original. Tall skinny tires on white steel rims and hubcaps. For interior looks like the floor was rubber mat from what is left of it. Will have to do research on the seat cover. I do have a stock radio that can go back in. Steering wheel and horn button are good and intact. The front fender I have a replacement from the pile of parts I picked up a month ago. Will need to fill in the side marker light hole on that 68 GMC fender and possibly a trim hole or fender badge - no big problem here. Might need to hunt down a GMC tailgate if this one cant be repaired.

Re: GMC 4x4 number 100 off the assembly line

I sure like the direction you're leaning! If the green truck, except in original white, is your goal, that's pretty darn nice (except for those squarebody hubcaps ). Congrats on the new ride. Based on all the various and sundry wheel color threads on here, which wheel color would you go with? I think these early Ks look great without hubcaps added personally, but they look good no matter what direction you. Got any pics of the interior? Always liked GMC's use of multiple paint colors in the interiors - not sure exactly which years did it though. Are there enough clues to try to find a matching original material to redo the seats? Here's a link to a thread on the green truck. The pic below looks like he did a little more detailing on the grille. https://www.m4carbine.net/showthread...7-GMC-restored

Here's a link to a dark green K20 that might provide a few ref pics. http://www.steinysclassic4x4.com/010.html

Re: GMC 4x4 number 100 off the assembly line

Here are 2 picts of inside, not the best photos. Intend to go over to storage Sunday and start truck up and bring over to house will get better picts then. Jocko thanks for the link and some of the information. My plan for wheels is to go white steel wheels with possible correct hub caps if I can find them, if not then just plain white wheels. I did that on the 72 GMC k20 and it look real good. No interesting color combos on this just Fawn paint everywhere including the glove box in Fawn without the texture on it like you see on others. Also no SPID available, was told that several of the GMC early on did not have a SPID. As far as the seat I have not removed the existing seat cover I have not tried to peak under to see if old cover is still there or not.

Re: GMC 4x4 number 100 off the assembly line

You may find the build sheet under the seat--my 72 had the SPID and the build sheet. Curious the OEM wheel color of your year--mine were verified black and no hubs. I like the look of the green truck. I think you rig would look great with steelies and bias tires--mine is getting Super Traxion 16.5-9.5 on 16.5x8.25 wheels. You are correct on the 100 number--that would make a difference to me--nice round number. Good luck on your build--very nice start as they say (whoever they are). BTW, you do have a serious problem collecting trucks.

Re: GMC 4x4 number 100 off the assembly line

Yes I do have serious problem with collecting trucks. It is a hobby to me, something that I love doing. The hunt, fixing and bringing something back to life. Also I have never used any money that I work for my hobby. I fix and sell a few to fund the hobby. When I run out of money from the hobby fund I sell a few parts that I might have statched away or I sell a truck. For example last year I bought two 68 longbed 1/2 ton trucks for $2200 from one seller local. Drove them home and had them both sold two days later for $4600 making $2400 toward the hobby fund.

I have 2 hubcaps that would work on the back. If you're interested. Very cool truck by the way.

Just sent you P.M. on the hubcaps. Also do you know what the front hubcaps would look like for this year, or where I might find a link to what they look like? Thanks!

So - a question. Mine is 71 fenderside 4x4 GMC Canadian made - VIN KS104-11 20539. Which is odd because in 71 in the US they started with the 10. I'd be surprised if 569 of these were made in Canada that year, but maybe?
