Re: post pics of 90 model setside beds on 67-72

i would really like to put a old school fleetside than a newer stepside. But resources are limited where I am. This guy gave me a bed off his 67 that was a 90 model bed and the match front finders where he molded the fender WW to match. I dont know what Its going to look like still trying to get the truck running. I just bought my harness today. And that was 400 for a painless. I would just like to see some pics so I can get some ideas on where I need to be

Well it can and has been done. It's just not the look for everyone. I suppose it's better than running round with no bed..
This is a pic of one from this board although I do not know who it belongs to.

Re: post pics of 90 model setside beds on 67-72

Yeah, this is one that has had a lot of work done to it. There are several members who have done it. Mike Nutt has an orange '69 that looks real good. Lot of work went into it. It is a different look if that's what you are after.
You can do a search of this forum and come up with a good many pics of his and several others.
Also, as an option the '73 to '87 step bed can bed used and should be more readily available than a good 67 to 72. I think I have a couple of pics of those as well.....

Re: post pics of 90 model setside beds on 67-72

You're welcome. I had a couple of pics where someone photoshopped the round fender well openings onto the late model bed to match the fronts. It actually looked real good, IMO. I hope yours turns out as well.
Oh hey. Pics. We like lots of pics.

Here is one, not pretty but it works, '67 with a '96 step-side bed.

When I start the restoration on the truck I will use the '68 step-side I purchased from a guy in St. Louis, it is pretty much rust and dent free. If there are any of each I sure can't find them. It will need new bed wood sometime in the future.

Today he even brought it 150 miles to me for the price I paid.

If you do, why not try and scab onto a couple of 88-98 front fenders that would provide you with the right fender opening? You're not using the fenders, just the wheel openings.

I have the fenders already molded with the right fender opening to match the newer styler stepside bed. I decided to go back to the original look.

Re: post pics of 90 model stepside beds on 67-72

I don`t care what guys do to they`re trucks. These are a good way to get a bed on a truck w/o spending a couple thousand dollars.

BUT!!! Please get this straight! There were no Stepside beds produced after 1987.That`s right,In 1988 when the new design trucks came out they offered this bed and it`s called a Sportside.I`d expect a GM truck fan to know this.Call it what it is,dag nabbit! Not only is the name changed as well as the styling, these changed the narrow bed from a historic utilitarian functional design to a stylized modern design for a sportier look. With plastic bedsides and side steps too high to be very useful,it is a whole new beast. It`s a stylized version of a Stepside called a sportside.

Re: post pics of 90 model stepside beds on 67-72

It's just old habits Tim, that's all. If it's got steps, well, it's a stepside.
But if someone wants to put that late model bed on a 67-72 then I suggest they do cut the rear steps off at least. I believe it is called a "step shaver" kit available on the aftermarket. And "round" out the wheel wells too. JMO
