Used to drag race alot in my 56 chevy-broke a rocker arm with no spare-removed both pushrods and sparkplug on that piston and drove it home on with a " V7". Sounded like a air compressor with the line off.

In my '70 chevelle it flooded like crazy one day for no apparent reason (stupid F%^*&#ing POS 2-bbl) so to get it to NOT FLOOD so I could get home I pulled the clip holding the squirter rod off, drove it home that way. Had to mash the throttle every few miles cause it stuck WIDE OPEN with the rod just hanging there.

Pulling a parts ford BII home the t-case moved and the auto locked up SOLID. Pulled the rear driveshaft, duct taped it in place. Continued driving home at 75.

jhow66, I drove an old Pontiac like that for a year or so, but it was much quieter with the spark plug in it. I had a Fiat 124 & the thermostat (external) jammed due to some kind of stop-leak. They were hard to find, & cost close to $100. I cut several sizes of strips of corrugated cardboard a little taller than the radiator, & slid 'em down between the radiator & the support & bottomed out on the pan underneath. I just used how ever many of them it took to keep the temp gauge in the normal range. With my Nova, I was racing a Buick & when I hit 2nd gear, the shifter broke off where it had an S-curve in it & almost ended up in the back window. And dangit I was just starting to catch up, too. Drove it home shifting with vise-grips.

About 15 years ago I had a 59 stepside and was driving it down a busy street when it started drifting to the left and I had absolutely no steering control. The oncoming traffic all managed to avoid hitting me and I came to a stop in a wide driveway. I crawled underneath and found that the left tie rod had come apart. I put it back in place and used almost a complete roll of 3M electrical tape to hold it in place. Got it home safely, about 20 miles.
