temp sender guru's

I am still trying to find a sender for ls3 that would work. Doing research and have found 10 different Hella senders that will fit but couldn't find any data sheets. I cross refed 1 to bosch. It seems to be fairly close on the temps above 100F but falls apart on low temps which don't matter much to me.

Go to this URL and click on datasheet link. What do you think

Re: temp sender guru's

I found this info last night for 67 72 temp guage sender specs

Several people tap the head on the Ls engine to accept stock sending unit
Run LS sending unit for the ecm and stock one for guage panel

Re: temp sender guru's

Not sure how different the ls3 is, but I’m running a 98 Camaro temp sensor, two wires for the pcm and one wired directly to my stock gauge.

Edit: are you looking for an air temp sensor? In that case, I totally misunderstood. Sorry.

Re: temp sender guru's

I've done a fair amount of research on this and the 98 3 wire temp sensor seems like a proven method with accurate results. I have parts on the way to do the same. They do have adaptors available for OEM senders that can be used on the rear passenger side head. But, with the cost of the sender and adapter, I was in for about the same amount of money. I should also mention, I am working on a 1984.

Re: temp sender guru's

How about one of these to operate your factory temp gauge and then use the donor sender for the PCM.

Re: temp sender guru's

The 98 sensor is for a 5.7L F-body. WestButte gave the pinout in his post.
I’m going to try this out on my 68. I suspect I will have to change the resistance on the back of the gauge to get it right, but that is simple enough.

Re: temp sender guru's

The 3 wire camaro sensor reads low on a 81-87 gauge. At operating temperature, 200 it was only on the 1/4 mark. Not the cold mark, one above it

Re: temp sender guru's

struggled as well on this issue. Finally ordered a sender from Speedway motors that installs with NO adapter no nothing. I haven't started my truck up yet so the results aren't available yet but others on reviews says it works on our factory gauges. Part A#275-1027. in about 3 weeks I will have mine running and will update

Re: temp sender guru's

I used the 3 wire on my 65 have not compared it to a digital gage but seems to be in about the same position as it was with the 350 I removed and it would tell me if it started to over heat i’m not worried if it’s not too exact degree
