That Cameo is incredible. All these old trucks had such style to them. Great job!

Do you ever see any of the GMC trucks from the mid to late 50's with Pontiac engines & trans? Those were rare too.

Thanks for a shop update, always enjoyable.
Happy to report that they have hit the show circuit and are doing really well. I haven't seen any of those Pontiac powered trucks but I have heard about them, how cool would that be.

Thanks, the styling of the older trucks is why we all love them.

Thanks, Tuba finally has a full crew of 5 like-minded guys. Next up is the 66 GMC Carryall.

Wow, Don & Mike... great hearing from you guys again.

The 66 Jimmy carryall is back in the shop. Metallic light green and cream on the outside and a warmer fawn and cream interior. We just completed the oak flooring in the back and all four of the sliding side windows. Don't know if any of you guys have attempted restoring those side windows but they sure are a challenge. Our usual glass company declined the job.

How could anyone not love that beauty? Just think those trucks where built to be used up and replaced. It is a true wonder any of them are still around.

Thanks fellas! It's pretty easy for this old guy to get up early in the morning when you work on old trucks every day, best retirement I could ever imagine.

The 66 GMC carryall and a 65 shortwide restoration are the focus of the crew lately. I will get some pictures together in a few days but today we are getting a boom truck to lift and place our new air compressor. A vertical 3- phase, 120 gallon, twin V pump with a 10 horse motor and it's a monster.

Also it's our Toy Drive season so life is very busy right now... more later.

We always appreciate the members and folks that drive the best truck forum on the planet.

Re: tuba trucks

It's TOY DRIVE time again. In previous years Tuba has gathered toy donations and presented them to local elementary schools. The teachers would store the toys in a place where they could bring in the more impoverished or single parent families and let them pick out all the toys needed to make Christmas wonderful for their kids. Doing it this way those families become Santa Claus with no credit going to the school or Tuba. That is why we like doing it.

If you wish to help out and make a child happy on Christmas morning you can send toys or mail a check, we will shop for you. Please make it out to: Clem Johnson, 1798 E. Huntsville Rd. Fayetteville, AR 72701. And Thanks a bunch.

This Years T-shirt art seen below. Be sure to include your return address.

Re: tuba trucks

The 13th Annual Toy Drive was a huge success. One of the elementary schools sent some pics of a bunch of Happy Kids. That is what it's all about.

A big thanks to those who contributed and helped us make this event happen each year. Folks on the forum are the best...

Re: tuba trucks

Today the crew was on the 66 Carryall. I had changed the dash to a two tone paint job including the steering wheel. Then Philip, Tuba's lead mechanic installed the engine turned gauge cluster. We filled it with a bunch of old Stewart Warner gauges. The Vintage Air AC vents are also in an engine turned panel mounted under dash. In one pic you can see that the brake is more spaced away from the gas pedal. We used the straighter clutch pedal arm to replaced the original brake arm. Then added an Impala pedal and 'Power Brake' pad.
The interior is coming together and I can't wait to install those seats. More pics soon.

Re: tuba trucks

As always Clem, some of the most, if not most covetable trucks come from Tuba Trucks every year.

You and your team are amazing in contributing to the maintenance of history and beauty.

Thank you all.

And your Toy Drive, every year you make such a huge difference to so many kids who would have nothing if not for the grace of all involved.

Re: tuba trucks

So beautiful, and yet difficult, to see the kids choosing a present. Wonderful what Tuba and friends has provided. And difficult to consider the conditions those families are facing.

I'll bet the non-flat-bed truck is much more what the lady had in mind. There are depictions all over the place of little pickups if you go into a big box "hobby store". That flat bed was very cool, but I'm guessing she's thrilled with the "make-over". Such clean work with character. Especially in the engine bay that most will not see. Thanks for posting.

Re: tuba trucks

Another nice old truck is rolling out. The dark green 65 has been completed and is heading back to Georgia. We spent a good amount of time on fit and finish because of the fabrication required but all in all, this truck has become a favorite. The owner had the chassis done with 4 wheel disc brakes, the stock 230-6 was freshened up as was the trans. All we did was put her together and detail all the components. Enjoy your truck Ky, she is one of a kind.

Re: tuba trucks

Here is a few more pics of Ky's truck. Soon to be cruisin' the roads in and around Atlanta. We love the 63 grill and the interior color Ky selected plus the 'Elroy' name in the dash cluster. This truck is the meaning behind a family heirloom... happy motoring my friend.

That is a Green truck!
I don't know the paint code for Hunter Green but that sure seems very close.

Ky will be smiling a lot driving that truck for sure.

Thanks for the update.

Thanks buddy! Wish you guys could make it over here sometime... That paint is acrylic enamel formulated to factory 505 Dark Green. That was the original color of Ky's truck.

I appreciate the compliment.
Sorry, we don't usually do pics of the trucks when they first get here unless our customer requests some sort of scrapbook on the build. A few have and we used to do it but now the build pics are only to show problems and the processes it takes to repair them. See page 29, there is some cab work on Ky's truck. Most of the finished truck pics you guys see on the forum are for the owners insurance purposes and of course, to help promote our shop.

There's just something special about a 63 grill especially in this condition.
The truck was a real partnership... Ky and the guys at Tuba.

Re: tuba trucks

It's time for this old dog to retire.

Tuba Trucks is officially for sale. The sale includes property, structures, tools and shop vehicles. There are 3 existing restoration projects in progress that will continue as well as list of vehicles waiting to begin. So, this is an active business with a living space and immediate income. It is set-up to build trucks but could easily convert to hot rods or muscle cars. We are announcing it here first because someone on the forum could be a likely buyer.

For more info contact me through this forum's messaging. Serious inquiries only, please.
