Slug is back....

After being on hiatus for 6 years. I found a new project truck. My previous 83 Silverado was lost back in September'08 in hurricane storm surge. It was a lowered swb with a 5/7 drop. I had just repaired rust in the lower windshield corners, 89 sub front clip and doors, 350 tbi and was ready for paint.

A couple of weeks ago, i traded 2 guns for a 87 lwb 4x4 with what i am told is 10" of lift, 7 suspension and 3 body. 350 tbi, and 33" tires. This is going to be a project pushed to the back burner while i finish up my custom bumper pull camper.

Nice looking truck! What do you call hurricane magnet? I'm down about 30 east/southeast of Houston, not far from Baytown.

Re: Slug is back....

After rebuilding the tbi, and getting the fuel pump to kick on. The truck fires right up. The problem now is that after idleing or revving, it starts to bog down. And wants to die out. Im thinking it has something to do with the exhaust being cut off before the cat, and no O2 sensor. Does this sound like it might be the problem.

Re: Slug is back....

Never mind, it seems as though the fuel is dribbling out of the injectors. I need to replace the fuel filter first. Then maybe check the fuel pressure

Re: Slug is back....

I got the old girl fired up and running today. I soaked the injectors for a couple of days in some injector cleaner, added around 2 gallons of premium gasoline to one of the tanks. And let her run for about 30 mins. Shut her down and tried to crank her back up. But, the battery was dead. Seems like a new alternator is in store as well as a set of new front brakes. I dont think this truck has run in over 8 years. The tags and inspection expired in 06. Tomorrow i am going to get another 5 gallons of gasoline and try again.

Re: Slug is back....

Yep, she runs smooth, but the new problem is there was no antifreeze in the radiator just straight water, and the tranny coler line has a leak and it pumped transmission fluid into the radiator. i guess sitting a long time with straight water pluss being run with water coroded the internal cooler line. So a new radiator is added to the parts list.

Re: Slug is back....

did a bit of work on the Old Beast last week. I scored a new radiator from a 6.2 Blazer for cheap, alternator, battery, cap n rotor, and new exhaust. I just need to weld in a O2 sensor bung and install a O2 sensor. oh, and a break job all the way around. next will be a dropped pitman arm because the turning radius sucks, and I need to tear into the rear end and see if the rear has a spool or if the diff is welded.

Re: Slug is back....

looks like I found my Fuel Injection problem. My guess is someone has the vent window open and went in deep. you could tell that the water came from the top of the case. and the little bit of mud rattling around told me this ECM is toast!!

Re: Slug is back....

Nice truck, but... please get rid of the body lift unless it's there for engine/trans fitment. Of course it's your truck, not mine, but I've always thought it's a bad idea, especially at 3". It puts way more stress on the body mounts.
