Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II

Sat under the hood with my butt on the driver side mounted battery, my phone camera in one hand, the shop light in the other and repeatedly attempted to shoot a picture of the casting numbers and date code on the back of my block. I have a ton of shots of the bell housing, back of the head, wiring harness, rear of the intake manifold, oil pressure sending unit, transmission bolts going into the mounting flange, blackness and very overexposed whiteouts. It took far too long to get the shot. A mirror made quick work of it in the end ( top tip! ).

Decided to put in my one piece back glass. Was a tough one man job. Painted the white letters on my gate. Painted my column.

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II

After reading about cowl rust issues and repairs with the 67-72s, I decided to get down on the pavement, and clean out the body drain holes. I was mostly concerned with making sure that there was no dirt or decayed leaves and needles in the area between the cowl and the front fenders, so I used one of those plastic ties to get into the drain holes and pull out anything that would hold moisture. The left side had some crud in there, but the right side was clean. Also did the doors, and rinsed them out to make sure all the drain holes flowed properly.

Finished up by washing out the front "horns" at the bottom of the fenders, and hosing off the underside of the truck.

No bad surprises, so I'm tired, dirty, but happy. My thought is that if I keep on top of stuff like this, I can keep the tin worm away.

Be pro active really helps I also sprayed fluid film down inside the cowl vent holes in the cab to rust proof. I did the inside bottom of the doors too.

Exclamation What Tod Do ?

You have a nice old LongBed in Wyoming ~

Love it , take good care of it so the tin worm doesn't eat it out from underneath you, DRIVE and enjoy it plus work it ~ that's what GENERAL MOTORS LIGHT DUTY TRUCKS were made for .

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II

We are pretty fortunate here in Wyo, very dry weather and no salt is used on the roads. most vehicles here have no or very little rust.

This truck was purchased new in Powell, Wyo. it has spent it's whole life here.

Post RUST Issues

Understood .

Be aware that even in the California Deserts these trucks tend to rust out because GM dropped the ball and didn't make any effort to prevent rusting .

This is why it's so critical to keep an eye on rust and be pro active .

I hope you'll do a major Service and tune up on it then DRIVE it as they're very good drivers .

Does your truck have a plaid seat ? If so check out the link below and it would be good if you could post some pics of your truck along with picture of the spid label on that thread.

Get out and drive the truck this summer and have some fun!
It sucks not being able to hear!

LWB trucks rule, if you don't think so measure your SWB!
After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.

No I think it is the angle of the photo. Don't think I could drive it that close together.

Thumbs up Steering Wheel Service

Thanx ! .

What did you use to clean it first ? .

I just bought an old ('59) VW Beetle and the steering wheel is in O.K. shape but filthy and the original paint is worn through .

Post Slider Backlights

Most Californians take them out, other places less so .

I always remove them and then can't give them away .

I try to give away left over parts because so many have helped me as I go along...

HAPPY THANKSGIVING.
